We've lived in Charleston for a few years now and would love to have a boat. The trouble is I don't want to pay for someone to keep it for me. We have an extra deep garage (fits 2 cars bumper to bumper) but just a normal sized (7ft I think) garage door height and a single wide garage door.
So what is the biggest boat (be specific on brands if you know of one) I can fit into a normal one car garage (but extra deep)?
I would love to have a little cuddy cabin but my guess it that would make it too tall. We would have 4 people on it and just use it to cruise around & go to the little islands around here.
Get a tape measure and measure the depth from the inside of the door to the back of the garage. Subtract 1.5~2' to allow wiggle room, that will give you the max length of the Boat on a Trailer you can fit in your garage. The normal garage door is about 7.5' but measure that too just to be sure, this will most likely be your limiting factor. Next we need the width from inside the door frame, subtract a foot for wiggle room.
Most small open bow boats will fit in your garage up to about 18', you may have to get a low ride trailer though to get it under the door..
Put up the numbers and we can put you in the correct direction...
Thanks OleTomCat! Cape_Fisherman I sure I hope I can do better than that! :-) So it's 36ft deep (allowing for wiggle room), the door is 7' 9'' wide (allowing a foot for wiggle room), and it is a 7' door but there of course a rubber piece of trim on the top that makes it more like 6' 11''.
Your biggest restriction is the door width. You'll find most full size trailers have 8' axles and the tires are slightly wider than that. Trailer size is going to limit your boat size.
You will not be able to have a top on the boat unless it is a folding, bimini top. You could also have a removable t-top if you want to spend the $$$...and if one makes sense on your boat of choice.
So...your concern shouldn't be the biggest boat you can get, but rather the widest trailer you can get into the garage. The trailer will dictate the size of boat you can get...

^~~ he nailed it right there...
Time to ride around to a few boat dealers with your tape measure...
What part of town are you in, can possibly send you in the correct direction...
Actually there won't be one until July 31, 2015...so I'm safe.
