Charleston's footprint is seriously impressive. Turns out starting in August you can fly to every Midwestern state except for Iowa and Wisconsin. Sure the airport isn't churning out 10 flights a day to Columbus, but covering 6/8 of the Midwestern states is impressive. You can also fly to 5 states west of the Mississippi, and the only northern states missing are Delaware and the New England states minus Massachusetts. 19/49 total.
Charleston's airport has recently leapfrogged Louisville, Tucson, Richmond, Tulsa, Spokane, Boise, Birmingham, Norfolk, Long Beach, Providence, Oklahoma City, and Kailua, and could possibly pass Reno and Memphis this year. Impressive growth.
Frontier will soon be offering direct flights out of Norfolk to Vegas so hopefully CHS is not too far behind.
I can't find 2017 numbers but based off 2016 numbers from this place we are ahead of Reno but behind OKC,
CHS's numbers last year was 3.987. OKC was 3.925, Charleston passed OKC for the first time last year.
Reno's number was a hair over 4 million. The only time Charleston was ahead of Reno was 2016. Reno has been ahead every year before that, and 2017. Reno saw a 10% spike last yea so either city could finish ahead this year.

So how long do you guys think it will take to surpass the 5 million mark at the airport?

Hard to tell because it depends on things like on how many routes are added or taken away, the economy, space at the airport, plane sizes, and if flights remain seasonal or get upgraded to year round.
That said it only took 4 years for the airport to go from ~3 million to ~4 million, so if things keep humming along at the usual pace it's been the last few years, not too far away, but we'll see.
In 2010 the airport dealt with barely over 2mil passengers, in 2014 they passed 3mil, in 2018 they will pass 4mil. There's not a lot they'd be able to do to keep up with demand tbh.
Also any idea when google will update local satellite imagery on Google Earth, the last update was some fuzzy images in September of last year, the last clear images they have were March of last year.
One of my friends works there and shared pictures of the new office. Looks incredible, just like the type of new workplace you see all over DC, New York, Atlanta, Chicago, etc that's attracting millennials. I hope Charleston can make big strides in that area. All the new Volvo's and Boeing's are great and all, but Chas really need more office presence.

I wasn't aware there were plans for a second new building.
Here's another a related article from the Charleston Business Journal :
(why did the architect add a police cruiser in the rendering!)
