Hi there... I am looking for some help and answers. Please.

I am relocating with 2 young children. I presently am in Nashville, but am looking to move my children closer to my family in FL, and closer to the coast. I miss the beach having grown up in FL, but for a plethora of reasons, do not want to go back there.

From what I can tell, Mt Pleasant looks promising. I am looking for a safe, FRIENDLY, strong community-type traditional environment. I also like traditional architecture (not the stucco of new development in FL). Good public schools are a plus, but I know a rarity these days.

My home price range would be around 500- maybe as little more but maybe a little less if I must do private school.

Is this MT. Pleasant? How are the schools? If not public, what private are suggested? What would be the commute to MUSC? What about to the College of Charleston? What is going on with the homeowner insurance- problems like in FL?

Thank you so much- any help is much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'On is a great community and very conveniently located to the downtown Charleston area including MUSC and the College of Charleston. However, homes in I'On will generally start at $600,000, with most in the $700,000 + range. Hamlin Plantation certainly would be a good choice in the $500,000 range. The Mt. Pleasant public schools are excellent as I have pointed out in earlier posts. The morning commute to MUSC and the College of Charleston will be between 20 min. and 40 minutes, dependent upon where in Mt. Pleasant you were to live and the time of the morning you were to leave. Home owners insurance is becoming more difficult to get in many of the Charleston communities, particularly those communities closer to the the ocean, including the town of Mt. Pleasant. However, it is generally available although more expensive than it was a year or two ago. The increased cost of home owners insurance generally is offset by the lower real estate taxes found in the Charleston areas compared to many other areas of the country.

My husband and I may be moving out of the area due to a job offer We have 2 small children as well. We live in the Laurel Hill Primary school area. This is an excellent primary school for K - 2nd grade. If you are interested in buying a house, ours may be up for sale!
