I was driving on 485 the other night and it was foggy and raining, and am thinking to myself this is so dangerous. It is pitch black, and it makes it hard to see. You would think the city would do something about this.
This is an ongoing issue here, and you'll find other threads on this very topic. I've said before, Charlotte is by far the darkest city at night I've ever lived in. If you can believe it though, its actually improved a bit over the past few years. The state did work on some of the highways to replace lighting that wasn't working and I can honestly tell a little bit of a difference. But still, when you get off the highways, it shocks me the lack of street lighting some times.
Interesting. I find it pretty and relaxing. As long as you have a decent set of headlights and know the road somewhat you should be fine. If your visiting it might get a little annoying but I personally like it.
You can extend that to normal streets too. Coming from Florida, this is one thing I really miss.
When it is rainy and dark, it is just a pain to drive on these roads when you got someone coming from the other lane. The light reflects off the water on the road causing me to be blinded. Can't stand it.
I also find the lack of street lights annoying and dangerous for a "city" this size. My relatives from Greensboro complain about the lighting situation in Charlotte when they come to visit. I was at a busy intersection with multiple lanes along with turning lanes, construction, & lots of traffic with blinding headlights. I can't understand why in a situation like that, there are no street lights to aid drivers. It's an accident waiting to happen.
Pitch black? That is what headlights are for. You must be one of those people I see driving around with their lights off.
Yes sir. Fog lights help as well. I do a good bit of rural driving at night and there are no street lights at all on country roads.
There are also no street lights on Interstate 40 for the entire 130 mile stretch between Wilmington and Raleigh and the traffic on that road averages nearly 80 mph.
Luckily I have an automobile equipped with headlights.
High beams too when needed.
