Myself and a few co-workers were discussing the rash of recent robberies and murders and the recent trend is quite disturbing. Charlotte is no longer the innocent little town I grew up in, in the 60's. With growth, comes crime obviously but it's just sad to be reading about 2 or more a week since the new year. I want to think I have a good eye for trouble-makers, and I am always alert to my surroundings, although I refuse to live in a paranoid state of mind. It's become a balancing game between paranoia and carefree attitudes. We need to get tougher on these criminals. Many of them of NOT first time offenders.

Well, one would think so. Maybe it was an assault that was planned out (not random, on the spot robbery) - Maybe the thugs had observed the process and thought they could sneak up and overtake the guards. Who knows.

It did cross my mind - wondering how the heck thugs could sneak up on armed guards. Maybe we will get more complete reports about just what happened later today.

Geeeezzz. And LE in that article advise us to "stay alert." Well, thank you so much for that great safety advice.

That is what gets me upset - how many are repeat offenders.

Here is my question.
What was the other Wells Fargo officer doing while the victim was being robbed and shot?
Is it not the job of the partner to keep their eye on the other as they are servicing the ATM machines?

Also:
Yes, the Armored Personnel Officers are in fact armed.
Even if you are armed, if someone has "the drop on you", it is not your best move to start reaching for and drawing your weapon, especially from an exposed holster where the perp can see every move you make. If you feel the perp is giong to shoot no matter what, then by all means go for it.
The odds of that move being successful are against you, but if they are against you anyway, then that may be all you can do.

I was in the other room - had the news on but didn't hear it well. Did I dream it up that I heard someone (don't know if it was an anchor or an eye witness or LE) say that the victim in this robbery was shot from a distance? I am not trying to start a rumor or get the facts messed up - I just wasn't sure what I heard. Anyone else hear how many perps were involved and if there is speculation that the shot came from a distance?

Anyone got a link to more info on this robbery?
