Just a friendly reminder to anyone doing back to school shopping or looking to buy some new clothes that this weekend is North Carolina's tax free weekend starting Friday @ 12:01 AM through Sunday night.

Below is the NC Dept of Revenue list of specific exemptions - http://www.dornc.com/taxes/sales/holiday_exempt.pdf

Quote:
August Sales Tax Holiday

G.S. 105-164.13C provides an exemption for certain items of tangible personal property sold between 12:01 A.M. on the first Friday in August and 11:59 P.M. the following Sunday.
  • Clothing, footwear, and school supplies of $100 or less per item;
  • School instructional materials of $300 or less per item;
  • Sports and recreation equipment of $50 or less per item;
  • Computers of $3,500 or less per item;
  • Computer supplies of $250 or less per item will be exempt.
Clothing accessories, jewelry, cosmetics, protective equipment, wallets, furniture, items used in a trade or business, and rentals are not covered by the exemption and will be subject to the applicable tax.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): http://www.dornc.com/faq/salestaxholiday.html

Basically, there isn't much to do on the buyer's end. Just make your normal purchase (includes online purchases shipping to a NC address) and if the item qualifies, you should not be charged. Retailers have to submit forms and do all the paperwork. We get to just focus on shopping...and dodging the crazies (i.e. everyone except me).

Hmm. I might head over to Costco and pick up a 10 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. Their phones are flawless so I want to try one of their tablets.

Maybe it won't be such a mad house there since you have to be a member to get in.

Is it true that this is the last one? I saw a sign at Sam's Club that I think said it was not approved for next year.

LOL, Costco is always a madhouse over the weekend regardless.

Your wonderful Governor and Republican legislator has decided this will be your last tax free weekend.

Default What happens when you go to Raleigh?

Do you lose your brain?
Lose common sense?

It's been widely reported that this is the last "sales tax holiday" for NC.
Raleigh says they lose about $17m in revenues this weekend every year.

Retailers say it's the best weekend they have other than Black Friday.

So.....next year...ALL that money is going to border states.

State still wont collect tax revenues AND retailiers will be empty as CLT peeps head to SC to shop...

What's in the water up there?

Me thinks that this topic might be better suited for the NC general board.

With that said, I'm grateful that I'm close to the SC border. I'll be making my quick trips to Rock Hill to get my tax-free purchases next year.
