I posted a similar question in the City vs City thread. I thought I'd ask those who live in Charlotte (maybe some of you lived in Denver before?) to see if you saw any similarities between the two cities? I am contemplating a move and it is between Charlotte and Denver. I lived in Charlotte 15 years ago, but the city has drastically changed and is not the place I remember. Still am fond of it though! I know they both get snow, have museums, amusement parks and light rail. Any opinions are welcomed.

Oddly enough, you'll probably find a more negative perception of Charlotte here than you will over on the city v. city thread. Good luck in your search, Charlotte is a great city to live in.

Really? Not sure why that would be because they are both great places!

I think because people move to Charlotte expecting it to be big city and like many others said, its a"young city" thats more family oriented not a "Fun times big city" atmosphere. They are both great places, but honestly totally different culturally.

I don't think any comparison makes sense. Charlotte is always being compared with the other cities in NC, as well as Atlanta. Denver plays a much more significant role regionally, the nearest cities comparable to it a a long day's drive.

Topography, climate, demographics all very different.

Metairie, never looked at it like that. Do you think the fact that Charlotte is a banking city has anything to do with the lack of "fun" perception? Also, I checked and the average age for Charlotte residents is 33.4 year while in Denver it is 33 so not too much difference there. Both cities appear to be family friendly, however, at this point, Denver's economy appears to be a bit stronger with a 4.8 unemployment rate compared to Charlotte's 7.0.

Itstimetomuskup, Lol!

Sean_CLT, your point about Denver playing a more significant role is valid as it is the state capital. The topography and climates are different and demographically it looks like Charlotte is a bit more diverse than Denver.

I would think thats part of it, but I don't really know since I'm still relatively new here. I would say Charlotte (Southpark) has a more family like vibe, kids everywhere, conservative manners and attire. Yet when I visit Denver (Cherry Creek area), I don't see as many kids. Cherry Creek and Denver seems more "hip and urban" to me. I also feel Denver has a lot of adult activities everyday of the week, compared to Charlotte. Both are nice just IMO completely different. I prefer Denver personally and would pick it if I had the opportunity to again... But we chose Charlotte for our business and hoped it was a more wholesome vibe for our kid. We were deciding between the two just like you. Good luck, I enjoy checking your thread!
