CEO Jeffrey Immelt, discontented with Connecticut's plans to raise taxes by what he says will be $1.9 billion statewide, informed workers today that he will consider moving its headquarters out of state...
There are articles that TX, GA has already targeted and offered GE incentives to atract them in their states.
It would be a huge boost to Charlotte which already markets itself as an "energy hub" city with Duke HQ and Siemens large manufacturing presence, plus others.
GE has turbine manufacturing facility in Grenville SC, airplane turbine assembly operations in Raleigh and manufacturing in Wilmington.
Let's hope our leaders are on hot pursuit, what do you think our chances are?
Thanks to the general assembly, we have no bullets in our incentive gun at the state level and will therefore not be in the running for this, just like the recent Volvo plant.

GA is over reaching but that won't impact whether or not GE decides to relocate their HQ to NC. It will primarily be incentive based but if the top dogs in GA get wind of a company like GE showing interest, I expect the anti-incentive gang to be muzzled.

In my opinion, no chance in hell, maybe Atlanta.
They weren't muzzled for Volvo. Berger and Rucho basically told them to pound sand. Why would GE be different?
I'm moving to Charlotte from Connecticut. I have many friends at GE, almost all of whom have no desire to leave the state.
GE, almost certainly, will get an incentive package from Conecticut and will stay in the state. The official HQ might return to Manhattan, but the bulk of employees will stay in Connecticut. There's an outside chance that if Texas offers GE an unreal package, it will build a corporate campus in Plano, and move Many back office employees there, like what happened with Met Life, but the top people will stay in Connecticut or NYC.
I am also planning a move to Charlotte from Connecticut...it has become somewhat unbearable to even be in CT anymore. After pushing all the gun manufacturers out of the State, our State Government is continuing their tax and spend mantra across the board. The State has pension liabilities eating massive holes in the budget and increasing every year. The only way out for Connecticut will be bankruptcy ala Detroit sooner or later...

Charlotte just lost the Lidl hq to Virginia over incentives.
I honestly think that any state has at least a shot. Why not put your best foot forward Charlotte?
