I live in Canterfield. There is nothing wrong with this community. There are 400 homes and only 22 listings right now, that isn't too bad. There are 3 builders in the neighborhood and you will notice that most of the homes being sold are Eastwood homes. There are very few Ryland and very few Mercedes homes available. The neighborhood still has some construction going on. Currently there are 8 pending homes, which will close in the next month. We did have several forclosures but they have all been purchased. The lender that was working with Eastwood gave loans to people that didn't even have jobs. Our neighborhood really is great, we have an awesome hoa board that is really turning things around and an awesome social commitee. I am also the neighborhood swim coach, so we have tons of stuff for the kids too. I really hope when you get here you do not over look this neighborhood b/c it is right in your price range. Also the only neighborhood that you are going to get into in Harrisburg under 200 is Canterfield. Mercedes is still building in here so it is also hard for re-sale homes to compete with a builder who is offering incentives.

We are trying to figure out from a distance (Ohio) what area is better for us between Concord and Harrisburg? It is hard to determine everything via the internet but would welcome any advise or feedback on both. We are doing a scouting trip in May - actually during the race weekend. It just so happens our trip was planned and we found out the race was going on at the same time. I guess it will be a good example of how crazy it can be and how we can handle it.
Our priorities are the public schools for our elementary aged children and a family oriented development with amenities. I've already done the research on the Concord schools but not yet on Harrisburg.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who can offer any insite.
Where will you be working at. Charlotte is a large spread out city and traffic can be a nightmare...especially travelling up I-85 North towards Concord. If you work in Charlotte...be prepared for a 45min plus commute each way if you work rush hour. Concord is a nice city...but you can have that traffic!
Huntersville is better all the way around! Better name, closer to Charlotte, great place to raise a family, close to Lake Norman...etc.

GOOD LUCK!
If you work in the University area, you don't even need to get on 85, just take 29. I commute to Glen Grove in 15-25 minutes. I lived in Cornelius for 6 months before our house was finished here. The traffic up there is just as bad if not worse and the infrastructure is way behind. In Cabarrus county we at least get the benefits of all the infrastructure being put in for mister fancy pants and his little racing tracks.

Can you tell me what you mean by liberal? My kids are coming from a NYC Catholic school. Should I worry about them adjusting? Thanks!

We're moving to Lincoln county next year. Most of the new neighborhoods around us start at 270 and up,with several in the 300-400 range.
