There is a annual thing that unfortunately takes place in my life each year to symbolize gravity is winning,
Things are in their phase to wind down.
Probably close to the half way point of things shutting down for decay.
It reminds me each year that I need to hurry up on life goals before it to late

So I wanna Celebrate!!

I had steamed Oysters on Tybee Island for the first time this past summer and I am craving them but I dont know where to go that has reasonably priced steamed oysters. Where would you recommend and is raw oysters to risky in today's age?

River Rat just in SC across the lake on 49 has some good ones, but I am sure that is more of a drive then you might want to look for. I like blackened ones myself.

Half way to decay, I like that...
Dont know if they have steamed oysters, but took my Wife to Mayflower across from Concord Mills Mall for her bday 12-26. I got the fried seafood platter, and the oysters stood out above everything else. Very reasonably priced, $80 for 5 of us.

Try Vinnies Sardine. They are located in Matthews, Mountain Island, Mooresville, and two other places in the vacinity. Try Oyster Rockefeller some time.

Why not steam them yourself? It's easy. You can purchase fresh oysters (in season) from the seafood market on Central Avenue. They have an excellent selection and excellent prices. Inner Harbor Seafood 704.567.0283. For an easy recipe on how: www.epicurious.com.

I'm a seafood lover too.

I had the raw oysters at Vinnie's in Mooresville and wasn't impressed. They didn't have the flavor that I have been used to finding at other restaurants near the coast and even at some of the local seafood places.

Big Daddy's at Lake Norman has an oyster bar and they shuck them for you.

Not sure if Vinnies still does it, but they used to have a monthly oyster roast during the warm months. If I recall, it was about $20 per person, all you can eat steamed on a pig cooker in the parking lot. Add several buckets of beer and some friends and I had a blast. Something to look in to.

Sunny, Ingles carries Chesapeake Bay oysters. Sometimes they have them in the shells. If an Ingles is within a reasonable drive for you, you could call ahead & ask if they have them & steam your own.
