Wolf spiders are actually really good at keeping other bugs in check (hence the wolf moniker). While I can't say that I blame you for squashing them due to their furry tarantula-like appearance, they try to avoid people wherever possible. Get a cat to eliminate mice and wolf spiders to eliminate bugs and in-laws.
I was doing my quarterly spider spraying around my house an hour or so ago. Although it is recommended that spraying be done annually, I saw a huge black widow behind the water gutter beside my house. It had a fairly large web where it lived. I got goose bumps that are still there. I guess I need a stronger spider killer.
stella, can u describe 'huge' in reference to the black widow? I don't know much about spiders, what I do know is black widow = bad, but I didn't think they were all that big.
I seem to find a lot of these spiders around the house.
They are fairly large (about 2-3 inches) and have yellow markings on their legs & body. Hard to kill them since they seem to stay in the middle of their large web.
Anybody knows what type of spiders are they and if they could be considered dangerous to my kids & dog?
Argiope spider. They're harmless. We have them too.

I would say it was a good centimeter across the black body part. The red violin was very visable. I have see larger spiders, but this one was large. They aren't deadly usually but can do some skin damage. My mom's cousin that lived in the country was bitten on the butt by one while visiting the outhouse years ago. Funny but scary. Any kind of spider freaks me out. I don't mind snakes so much. Thank god I am told there aren't many brown recluse spiders around.
Who is it that recommends annual "sprayings"? How strong is the "spider killer" that you're using? What is the active ingredient? And finally, what other kinds of gutters are there besides "water gutters"? Just gotta know. LOL.

In the last two days I have seen two spiders (same kind) that I don't think I have ever seen before. The body is really big and rounded (not as big as a marble but bigger than a pea) and they are brown and the legs have hairs or something on them (not smooth). Both spiders I saw were outside - one near a crawl space door and one I walked thru its web and it fell on me. The spider is a pretty fast runner. What is this???
Google "Orb Weaver" & see if that's what you saw. They're really common here and like all spiders, are about as big this time of year as they'll get.

Thanks Bugguy! That is it!
