BUGGUY, if you are out there...

Saturday night, I noticed my cat chasing something across my living room floor....it turned out to be a spider! It was dark and about the size of a JFK half dollar. And it didn't just run from the cat..it HOPPED. My DH squashed it with a tissue, so I can't post a photo. Any ideas what kind it could have been? Do I need to be worried that there will be more? Should I just move UGH!

May have been a large species of Wolf Spider as mentioned. It could also be a Nursery Web Spider. They are also large and are hunters, as opposed to spiders that build webs. No need to move! LOL.....while all spiders are venomous, bites from these are more painful than they are poison! They generally live outside or in crawlspaces.....probably came in by mistake and couldn't find the way back out.

It might have been a cave cricket or camelback cricket - they look like a cross between a spider and a cricket! So creepy when they jump. I've mostly made peace with them - as long as they stay in the basement!

You're right - many times Camel Crickets are mistaken for spiders. Camel Crickets are totally harmless.....they can't bite or sting....just a nuisance.

Everywhere is correct, especially when they have these many babies:

Oddly, I've seen many wolf spiders trapped in webs of smaller spiders and eaten.

Definitely wasn't a crickett (although I have seen those too). I am pretty sure it was a wolf spider...my concern now is my cat who doesn't have the sense to leave these suckers alone. Funny thing is, we had just had the exterminator in... the spider seemed completely immune to whatever he used.
