Hmmm...I love Elizabeth. There are some gorgeous old homes there and you can walk to a lot of stuff.

I don't know the people & neither do you. I simply said that they might come up with something different. Do you not think that it's possible that they know people who have kids who work in Charlotte? For cripes sake, they might know someone who is looking for a roommate.

I did not knock your suggestions. I simply gave what I thought was a reasonable response to his additional information. I look at it that these threads are archived & if, in 6 months someone else with a similar situation comes along & reads it, they should be able to see a wide variety of reasonable solutions to their questions.

Geez southbound, why so touchy?? I agreed with you on part of your suggestion and was only pointing out people in Clover don't usually have their finger on the pulse of what is happening in Charlotte's neighborhoods, that's all - no offense intended, honest!

Stay with your family for a little bit... get the lay of the land. Plaza Midwood is a nice area for 20 - 30 somethings. I'm not far from that area. I pay less than $500 a month rent for a 2 BD/1.5 Bath apartment. Good luck with your move!

But it is a real nice house off Seneca Blvd right by a light rail stop. huge fenced in yard, great, safe neighborhood, Email me at jmguriel@yahoo.com for more details.
hmmm....are you sure you actually live there? The only Seneca I know in Charlotte is Seneca PLACE, not Seneca Blvd?

There may well be deals in South End, but I highly doubt that any are good enough to accomadate Tunk's very limited budget. In addition, South End is thisclose to a lot scarier places than Elizabeth. He'll be a lot safer in Elizabeth and have very good bus access to uptown like he wants so that he can leave his car parked at home.
I agree when I moved here as a single girl before I was married, I would have felt a lot safer and happier in the Elizabeth area which is cool and trendy than anywhere on South Blvd.

Tunk you will find that the public transportation in Charlotte is probably not anything like where you are used too. Most of the people I know pretty much associate the bus system with unsavory characters. I know I wouldn't want to ride it alone everyday. Frankly as much as I love Charlotte, its just not a friendly city for people without cars unless you live in the hear of uptown which is $$$$$$$

and you would probably have to drive to the light rail. There should be a bus route along Seneca though.

Thanks again for all the support everyone! My plan is to wait until I get there to stay in Clover until I can actually look at a place in person. It seems as if I will be able to get a better idea concerning neighborhood and transportation availabilty that way. I am tempted to go the route of a roomate, but the girlfriend isnt jumping for the idea of living with strangers.

Either way, everyone's advice is really helpful, and I'm sure I will have plenty of questions once I am settled into the city.

You can not get an apartment in a managed place or through a real estate broker without showing proof of income (2 paycheck stubs) that is three times your monthly rent. You will have to get a roommate share and be careful who you room with since you are coming from out of state. There are scammers.
