Sheena, aren't you in Huntersville? It seems like I heard that the City of Huntersville has issues with the privacy fence and HOA's adopt City policies with some subtle variations between communities. From how I understand it, privacy fences are not allowed unless they have huge brick posts and wood panels in between. I think it looks very tacky, and a plain old wood fence or aluminum or arbor looks much better. We have a privacy fence here in our neighborhood. If you care to take a look at it, pm me and I'll provide you the info.

We don't have a privacy fence but we have a 6 ft. with small spaces in between the slats. You can also see through it, so it gives it a sense of a room without being confining. Is it complete privacy? No, but I believe it provides some privacy, more than if you didn't have a fence. It keeps our dogs in our lawn, and children and other critters out.

I actually prefer not having a fence but the puppy really needs it. We've also had issues with children in the neighborhood running through our back yard with a dog, obviously uninvited. I believe it is a protection for us to have our backyard fenced.

Find a good Realtor and they will know the restrictions of the HOA, etc. And they can find you somewhere either with a fence already or where you can put one up.

Default dogs

What about dogs, don't people around there have them? There are many breeds that can't be contained by the invisible containment systems...

i've noticed more people here walk there dogs rather then "let them out" in the backyard.

when it comes time for house buying, my husband and i will definitely be looking for a house with a fence or the ability to put one up. i want to be able to let my dog run around and have my "future" children play in the backyard without worrying about any invisible property lines.

Yes we are building in Centennial and they allow fences up to 6 feet but not the ones that are totally private. I don't think they allow wood only vinyl and wrought iron. We'll probably get something like you described and then in between the openings plant some of those bushy fast growing trees. We will probably get a dog so I will need to keep her in and others out. I also worry about uninvited children and dogs wandering around the yard, especially when my husband plants his stuff, he'll come unglued.
