My family and I are moving to Charlotte next year. I would like to know good areas to live with small children. My husband would need to commute to uptown for work. What are good communities with active sports leagues, good schools and friendly people? Our kids are 3 and 5 years old - so elementary school is our main priority. Thanks for the help.

south charlotte - has good sports leagues - baseball or whatever - active and huge YMCA which caters to families, nice standard of living and very nice folk.

I agree South Charlotte is great -- so is Union County It would be helpful to know your price range because prices in the Charlotte area can vary dramatically depending on location.

Take a look at Belmont. Very family freindly, has a YMCA, and an active Parks and Rec (http://www.cityofbelmont.org/webroot/departments/show/1 - broken link) department.

So - What are neighborhoods in South Charlotte and names of elementary schools? My husbands co-workers talk a lot about Ballantyne?? We want a house with about 4000 s.f. and a good sized yard.

Smile What about Ballantyne?

How is Ballantyne? My husband's co-workers have said it's nice. We want a house with about 4000 s.f. and a good sized yard. What are the names of elementary schools in South Charlotte?

We are coming from South Florida where prices are pretty high. So we could be in the 800-900,000 range - especially if we don't have to do private school!
