Really? Most people in the Chicago area live outside the City. A small stretch maybe, though the largest in the US.

Perhaps my history fails me, but didn't many Europeans come here as skilled tradesmen? As in, they had some sort of craft perfected and practiced said craft once here in the US?

If so, that's a far cry from migratory farm workers who don't do much for our economy except provide basic services nobody really wants to do.

And, compare that to asians and eastern indians who come here legally to attend our universities and work on H1B visas.

Most were farmers and laborers.

Yes, clearly the best and brightest with their 8th grade educations and unskilled labor skills. My thought is if they were doing well enough in Mexico, they would never have risked life and limb to get here and do manual labor for minimum wage.
Careful with what you say there. My parents both came to this country from Mexico. And both have Master's in Chemical Engineering and have built a nice fortune for themselves. Something most people in this country can't say.

I have been to Italy. They are the same as the Italian Americans. The only real difference is that in Italy the women are hot and here not.

That is what is most unfortunate. Even if a new ethnic group were to start to come to "Chicago" they would in actuality end up in some suburb 50 minutes away.

I'm genuinely happy for you, I wish I could learn the same about the other Mexican immigrants I've met. Most that I have met don't even value education and I can't figure out why that is. Maybe its a immigration status issue that prevents them from pursuing a college education? I think most colleges check your status and that is unfortunate if its keeping a hardworking population from getting a good education.

I thought they were nice people, and nothing at all like Italian Americans, but I did meet some "unsavoury" types out there. There are some that prey on tourists and if you stuck to touristic areas then you probably didn't meet regular Italians. We were lucky enough to know some locals and the people we met were just great. The food off the tourist path was unbelievable.

I pretty much agree with this guy. Actually, I'm shocked because I've never met a legal, educated Mexican immigrant.

Like I said before, the majority of the Mexican laborers I've met and worked with came from rural areas with an 8th grade education. That's the equivalent of working with poor Tennessee Valley people, or white trash. I don't want to do that either, and that demographic isn't good for much either.

They sure can rock some good country music, grow good herb, and make great moonshine too.
