I live outside of Saint Louis, MO and a few friends and I want to go to Chicago to see a concert. The band is playing at the Schubas Tavern located at 3159 N Southport. In order to get permission to go from my parents, they need to make sure we're going to be in a decent neighborhood. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

I consider it very safe. Great area with neat restaurants, shops, and lots of folks out late on the sidewalks. Cabs are very easy to flag down and abundant. Enjoy your concert.

In my opinion, that part of Southport is one of the most immaculate streets in the city. It's absolutely beautiful, and there will be plenty of people walking around. You should obviously keep in mind that you'll be in a big city, and you shouldn't walk around with cash hanging out of your pockets. But the neighborhood is definitely safe.

Absolutely safe, but like any neighborhood in the city don't leave anything valuable visible in your car. Leaving an iPod or something out will just invite a smash and grab.

Yeah, and make sure it's an 'Under 21' or All Ages show , or you're probably not going to get in ... Parental Permission or not ...You don't want to travel 4 hours to sit in the car and admire the safe neighborhood

About as safe as possible, as everyone else said.

Good advice. And yes, the neighborhood is nice and safe.

The neighborhood is nice and Shubas is a great music venue.

Just use common sense as you normally would.

As others have said, it's a perfectly fine neighborhood and, in fact, one of Chicago's best. You'll be as safe there as you would be anywhere.

Haha, I live right near that bar and it's funny to hear that question. But I can understand why you would be asking it. It is an extremely safe and vibrant area. I'm more worried about whether you are old enough to be in there for whatever gig they got going on tonight. If you went tonight, then you probably also figured out that you would have to pay a premium for parking your car along the street.
