I'm sure he's being paid a lot to "want" that...

The Chicago Sandburgs
The Chicago Lakers

It's all moot, anyway; there will never be a 2nd team in Chicago..

So who's doing the "tuning-up", or what is being "tuned-up"?

I'm guessing that this might be a Chicago-insider thing, but I reeally don't know...

Maybe, since Los Angeles has the Lakers, Chicago should have the Oceaners, just to balance it out.

I agree that it's not likely for any city to get a second franchise in a major sport in this day and age when there so many up and coming smaller cities clamoring for them (and willing to tax their citizens to give the team a free stadium/arena). I would never say never, though. Stranger things have happened.

A tune-up is what you get from a Chicago cop after you've failed the Attitude Test. Or at least it was until the ubiquity of the cell-phone video camera ruined everyone's fun.

Now, after searching my memory banks, this DOES sound familiar. I read Mike Royko's "Boss", and he described Chicago cops who would sell pencils as a gimmick, instead of issuing tickets, to increase graft in the 50s and 60s, although a "tune-up" is something a little different, I suppose..

Assuming a second team took on a southside persona, I have a few other ideas:

Chicago Hogs, Chicago Unions (stockyard references)

Chicago Gorrilas/Silverbacks (Upton Sinclair ref/Jungle)

Chicago Shamrocks (Would hate to play up to just one of Chicago's many ethnic groups, but white people are shameless suckers for anything even remotely tied together with Irish culture. You might laugh, but I guarantee that a second team named Shamrocks would sell 60k psls right away.)

Chicago Carp

Chicago Devils (White City ref)

In that case, how about the Chicago Polskis?....

The "Shamrock" nickname could be used in Boston, but the "Celtics" is already in use...

There was already a Chicago Shamrox, the short-lived professional lacrosse team that played out at the Sears Center.
