Kids today have it so easy what with the flatness and all. Back when Chet was young, people in Chicago walked uphill to school both ways.

Just like "Get off my lawn"??

Or how about an old cartoon favorite: "I'd have gotten away with it...if it hadn't been for those meddling kids..."

But I think that Lookout Kid had a point, though---some of the technological advances of late have been for fairly trivial "needs" ( apps on I-phones for hailing cabs, playing games on phones, etc). It does smack somewhat of unnecessary stuff..

Hey, thanks! I'm not that old (late 30s) and I actually really enjoy the younger co-workers I have, and don't really place the blame on them for the state of the world. We are all inheriting a mess that existed before we had any impact, and jobs simply follow the capital that our economy creates or accumulates. I'm just a little saddened by seeing so much potential wasted when we have some really serious problems to solve as a society.

Now get off my lawn!

I don't see kids playing fast pitching in schoolyards or 16" softball in the alleys ("lineball"). This is disturbing.

The smartest guy I know abandoned a career in engineering research to become a hedge fund manager. His income probably went up 100-fold, so I totally understand his decision, but I think we as a society are worse off as a result.

We could say that society is worse off, but if the trickle down effect is for real, a successful hedge fund manager might actually help to boost the economy and create jobs for folks provided that real value is created somewhere and that the money they're getting is not a result of a zero sum game.

Even if so I think our nation would be better off if more of this brainpower, cleverness and scheming was being used in American industrial production.

You can call ol' Grandpa Simpson waving his fist at the "whipper snappers" but the fact is that previous generations of "urban pioneers" were at least capable of organizing themselves, using their own elbow grease to literally clean-up their own alleys and even being a force in politics -- once upon a time "Lakefront liberal" actually meant something.

Now the pre-processed nature of hipster driven marketing is seeing tract home builder toss up the latest in eco-friendly living with shiny faux industrial appliances, poltical sensibilities shaped more by comedy shows than any awareness of what consequences exist for the fiscally ignorant and an inability to actuall DO anything that does not include a web enabled social media interface...

A good game of stick ball would be nice to see too.
