This weekend, July 28-31, marks the 50th anniversary of Fiesta Del Sol.

This is the largest Latino festival in the Midwest.

It's a 4 day family friendly festival held in Pilsen. This event spans 8 blocks along Cermak Rd. between Morgan St. and Ashland Ave. Many of its food booths showcase tacos, tamales, and tostadas. One attraction is the large Ferris Wheel.

Admission is free. The festival closes at 10 PM daily.

DISFRUTAR!

I keep passing an advertisement for Serbfest outside of that church on the side of the Kennedy by Cumberland. I’ve never heard of it. Has anyone ever been to Serbfest if it is not a new thing?

I went to a fest at that church a few years ago. I don’t know if it was Serb fest or not (it was in October) it was pretty awesome though. That church has a bar. Yes you heard me right, a bar. In fact the actual bar (The long fixture you sit at) is supposed to be the largest in Illinois.
That alone makes it worth checking out!

Good morning to you all,

I believe I know which church you are talking about, on Cumberland. It is VERY beautiful!

I am EXTREMELY SAD, team!

I was hoping I'd have a half day today and come on down.

But I have 20 inmates I need to work on, so it was a busy BAD weekend! And I went in at 9:30 a.m., so it will definitely be a full day! ;(

So I hope you all enjoy this gorgeous day!... I don't even have a window in my office. Probably better that way!

Nearwest, my friend,

I was looking back on this thread on something you posted, 8-2-2021.

On that day you had broken the news that the Italian Fest on Taylor Street had been canceled THAT year!

How happy I am that as of right now, Italian Fest on Taylor Street is still a go this year!

You're speaking of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral. It's located at 5701 N. Redwood Dr. in Chicago.

According the Cathedral's website, the annual Serb Fest is scheduled for this coming weekend, Aug. 5-7.

I have neighbors who are Serbian Orthodox and they have attended this event before the pandemic. They told me that this event is an enjoyable venue to celebrate their ethnic heritage and to have some great food.

Hey, everyone. Wishing you all well.

Did anyone make Taylor Street this weekend? I missed it this year.

I did get to Edison Park Fest on Saturday. Music was pretty decent, actually.

I went to Croatian Fest yesterday morning. I walked in the parade with my eldest, and we carried flags.. I took my child back to Milwaukee, and actually CAME BACK to Croatian Fest at night!

I attended the Festa Italiana along Taylor Street on Sunday. This year marks the first time since 2019 that this event was held.

The amount of space along Taylor Street devoted for this year's Festa was shortened by almost 2 blocks compared the celebrations in the past.

There were 5 stages with live entertainment. Among the performers were The Bronx Wanderers, Haley Reinhart, and Postmodern Jukebox.

Admission was free, but there was a "suggested" donation of $10 per person.

As to be expected at this type of event, the cost of both the food choices and drinks seemed to be overpriced.
