Fair points.

As for the community - I honestly think the issue is that certain people are afraid of the cops and others (a very small minority) are political extremists who say they hate cops but secretly want them around. Most people I know WANT cops around.

Mayoral election is in Spring 2023 - soon.....

Yeah, kinda like this dundermook:

Chicago alderman who said he wants fewer cops in his ward ‘demands’ CPD stop street vendor robberies — then there’s that 191% increase in shootings

Hi everyone,

I've found cheap places in all these areas, but which one is the best for low crime and safety? Where would you live from this list if you had to pick?

Option 1: Little Italy neighborhood off Taylor St
Option 2: Little Village off W 23rd St and Kedzie Ave
Option 3: Madison St and Wells St in the loop
Option 4: Randolph and State Street in the loop
Option 5: Logan Square at Milwaukee Ave and California Ave
Option 6: Wellington and Spaulding in Logan Square

Little Village is kind of rough, the rest are fine by "big city" standards -- whatever that means these days.

I would never live right in the loop. I used to work right at Madison/Wells - it's fine, but that whole area is creepy dead at night.

I don't know enough about Logan Square, but overall a lot of people like it.

If you know the right folks (people?) in Little Village, you could prance around all day wearing the Crown Jewels and nobody would touch you.

Both of the Logan Square locations are decent and pretty safe by Chicago standards. The Wellington and Spaulding location is probably going to feel a bit more residential and quiet (but still easy walking distance from one of my favorite LS bars, Smallbar) California and Milwaukee will be a bit busier of a scene. It has tons of shops, restaurants, bars, etc. and a Blue Line stop all right there.

2022 finished with 692 murders.

2021 was 794
2020 was 778
2019 was 502

So, 2022 was better than "covid" years but still substantially worse than pre-Covid.
