I will not hesitate to yank the wheel and blast over a sidewalk or swerve into the opposing lanes if I see some thugs approaching my vehicle.

My solution for avoiding muggings is not being out super late - that's when most of them happen. Not all, but it reduces your odds.

Which L lines have your friends been mugged on? And was it late at night?

My daughter takes the Brown at all hours - she's had a few interesting interactions for sure, but has never been attacked.
I have read about occasional carjackings in the northern suburbs too. Dealership heists seem like an increasingly common occurrence.

I have only been on the Purple and Red Lines in my lifetime and I believe that my friends have been robbed on the Red Line and at night, primarily in Lake View. I'm not 100% sure, obviously. The Red Line seems to be the most prone to crime and drama because it traverses the entire city across neighborhoods of such varied socioeconomic status.

Avoiding being out late at night in the land of 4 AM bars is going to be hard to do for any young and social person.

"The driver led troopers on a miles-long pursuit that ended when he crashed into a ditch at I-55 and I-80 in Will County, according to ISP. He got out of the car and ran, but state police dogs ran faster."

Lakeview carjacker who unwisely drove into law ‘n’ order Will County is smacked with 22-year sentence

They don't mess around down there. Perp was obviously used to being arrested in Cook County because he told the arresting officers he'd be back out in three days. He was wrong. I'm not sure how they were able to prosecute crimes that didn't occur in their jurisdiction, but i won't be sad if the conviction/sentence sticks.

This is what Chicago just vote for more of:

Quote:
An 18-time convicted felon received a sentence of time served for allegedly stabbing a CTA bus driver who confronted him about stealing another passenger’s wallet.

Daniel Pelt, 64, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery of a transit employee in exchange for a sentence of two years, according to court records. By law, his sentence was reduced by 50% for good behavior

The CTA case is Pelt’s 19th felony conviction in Illinois, according to state records. His first prison sentence was a six-year term for robbery in 1983. Since then, he has been convicted of narcotics, theft, aggravated battery, burglary, and attempted robbery.
Honest to God, why even bother having a criminal justice system?

I know. Obviously. The reason for my little tongue in cheek post.

Here's what always astounds me when reading posts about Chicago. Everyone is constantly comparing the degrees of safety from one part of the Chicago proper to the next. People who are young and single without a family to be concerned about and want to experience the excitement of being in the heart of the city, I can understand. Even when I was young, I WOULDN'T be like that, but I can at least understand where they're coming from. I can even understand those couples who no longer have kids or didn't have any that want to live within the city.

What boggles my mind is those with families having young children who insist on being in the heart of Chicago, even though they financially can afford NOT to be there. These people I consider to be among the most selfish people out there. The well-being of their children is secondary to them when it should be #1 in their minds. All the arts and museums and major sports teams are not worth having your kids being in danger. Whenever you feel the need to attend one of these venues, drive your 20+ miles or so from your SAFE neighborhood to do so.

Don't you know that the larger % of people in this country never worry about the inevitable time when they or their kids will get assaulted or worse? You don't have to live in constant fear with your head always looking to see if someone is about to accost you.

People make less sense everyday it seems. It is a shame though when children pay the price

Mod cut: Quoted post deleted.

Every news article I've read has said that violent crime is down in Chicago. Almost all violent crime is limited to criminals or their associates. Mod cut.
