Good day, all,

Today I saw an article, NewsNation on MSN.com, entitled, "Rise in crime leading businesses, residents to flee Chicago."

If it is legit, in is quite a "bummer."

Count me among those who got out days after predicting that the place was gonna turn into an all-out s&*t-show. And God only knows how much worse it will get once the "no cash bail" law goes into effect.

It's been two years now, and while I miss the huge variety of great restaurants and bars within quick striking distance, I'm quite surprised and a little sad about how little I miss living there. I don't miss rubbing elbows with sociopaths, random parking tickets, getting our cars periodically dinged up or vandalized or stolen, my kids' schools going on lockdown, and I no longer feel the need to get home ASAP from some excursion just to get some peace and quiet away from it all.

One of the quotes was something to effect of "crime used to only be relegated to certain neighborhoods, but now it's all over." It also says that crime is up 40% compared to this time last year. That is insane because crime was terrible last year.

I personally have known 3 very successful colleagues (physician-scientists) who years ago purposely moved to Chicago because they loved the city. They have all purposely left Chicago to take positions in other cities within the last year because they could no longer stand the violence in the city. Since 2020 this city has become something unrecognizable from the city I once loved so much.

Sad times indeed. It is sad to see so many people who once loved this city leaving....

personone, you SAID it!!

I've mentioned that crimes go in "trends."

So I read that a man walked into a Chicago establishment during the day, and tried, OR took money from the register

Now today, I read in downtown Milwaukee, 2 people, also brazingly, tried OR did take the purse of a woman in a nice area, during light time.

People, we MUST fight back. If you wait for your law makers to finally enact laws to fight criminals, it will be too late!

It seems murders are down, but other crimes are up.

Through August of 2021, total murders were 527
Through August of 2022, total murders were 444

It's been about a 15-16% decrease all year. That's good.

But yes, I do think overall crime is up, and it's spread out a bit more.

Also, as people get older, they get more scared or less tolerant of crime. It doesn't surprise me that young people want to live here and then as they get older they want to leave. That's the general pattern of migration and has been forever.

Drover, good day.

Sorry, I did not see your response until just now.

Where did you move to after Chicago, if you are comfortable to share...

This article about policy-driven police inaction/lethargy and its consequences ought to make your blood boil.

And some people question why shoppers and tourists are staying away from the heart of Chicago these days. There is NO ONE there to protect you. The police are understaffed and have zero backing from Chicago's political "leaders". This toilet isn't going to improve until you get rid of Lightfoot and the city's lawyers.

You know who is out and about en masse at that time.
