My point is I'd rather see Hanie finally get a chance to play, that's the silver lining here, he can get some much-needed experience.

It's critical to give your #2 some downs, especially given that Cutler is apparently hard-wired to take hits & our O-line has been soft and is still getting their act together. We can all hope Cutler gets well soon and plays every last down once he does, but we all know he's going to periodically get mauled and will need at least a set of downs to recuperate. Orton was never going to be a long-term fix, showing some faith in Hanie was wise IMO.
But they almost certainly weren't looking to pick up Orton to take over for Cutler, but as a backup to Hanie. So either way Hanie was still going to get his playing time. Believe me, even as a backup to Hanie they'd much rather have had Orton than McCown.

True enough.

I just worry the Lovie Smith of old would rear his boring, conservative head and go with Orton just out of familiarity.

I am a fervent believer we succeed in spite of Lovie, not because of him - just for starters, he's the poster child for how to waste (or not use when appropriate) your challenges. I also wish he'd periodically show some actual emotion out there.

Do you suppose anyone on The Bears defense will remember how to tackle before this game is over?

Right after the receivers remember how to catch a ball thrown right at them, and the line remembers how to block the pass rush...

Hanie may not be doing so hot, but he sure hasn't had much to work with lately either.

This season is over! Hanie sucks let's just pull the starters and put in the 2nd and 3rd string. I have lost all hope. Even if the Bears make the playoffs they will lose in the first round. This sucks! I had such high hopes this year!

As I note above, Hanie has had plenty of help in sucking. He took a lot of flack last week. And yeah he looked pretty bad for much of the game, but he engineered what should have been 3 scoring drives last week that would have been plenty to win the game. He engineered a drive that put Gould in easy field goal range but he uncharacteristically missed. He engineered another drive that would have yielded 7 points instead of 3 if Barber had remembered where to line the hell up. He engineered 3rd drive that would have yielded another 7 if the receiver (I can't remember which) had caught the ball drilled right at his numbers at the goal line. Instead of getting credited with a touchdown pass, Hanie was credited with an interception because his butterfinger receiver sucked worse than he did. That's gotta be frustrating, especially under the circumstances.

^^ Other things that don't help Hanie out: 1) Having a spectacular-for-once catch basically erased by a stupid personal foul by Hester; 2) Who the hell calls a draw play on 2nd and 30?

there is still a chance this season. the question is, when is Cutler returning. he was passing around the ball today with his bad thumb on the sidelines. Some sources say that he is done for the regular season, others say he may be back. that is the big question I think.
