There's a poem about Chicago (or maybe a song lyric) that says "She kissed me with her Magikist lips"... Does anyone have any idea what this phrase is from? It's driving me crazy.

The last of those signs disappeared five or six years ago... I remember it being in the Tribune when they took the last one down.

Just what the North Side needs... Another faux Irish Pub. Zephyrs was so much cooler with the stainless steel.

Too many old-school German restaurants/pubs have shut down in the last decade or two. Zum Deutschen Eck on Southport, about a block south of the Lincoln/Southport/Wellington intersection (a kick-ass timber-beam-style building torn down to make way for a stupid parking lot); the Metro Club just around the corner on Lincoln; Von Stuke's in North Center (which was replaced by another German beer joint called Great Beer Palace, which itself has been by another German restaurant, albeit a more sanitized/mondern/upscale-ish one called Glunz Bavarian Haus); Schulien's in North Center/St. Ben's (now a douchey Irish pub called O'Donovan's); Golden Ox at North and Clybourn (now a kitchen-cabinetry showroom or something like that). At least some of the old-school places are hanging on like Lachett's, Mirabel, Edelweiss, Resi's, Huettenbar...

Does anyone remember the Norwegian church in Logan Square? Or the Norwegian "Country club" on Logan Blvd?

That particular one is still there, or at least it was some months ago. I have a picture of it I took on Easter Sunday.

I haven't been back to Chicago in over a decade. Is Chicago tearing everything down for parking lots or condos?

Such a shame they are tearing down such great buildings like Zum Deutschen Eck....and I can't believe the Metro is gone. Spent so many early morning hours dancing there in the late 80s.
