Apparently Jesus saw the devil in Peter when he spoke to him: "Get thee behind me, Satan." Jesus loved Peter. Peter loved Jesus. Jesus also said at the last supper, "one of you is a devil and shall betray me". Then they immediately began to wonder, "is it me?" They didn't tell Jesus that a man cannot be a devil and that he had his biblical theology wrong. Why do men/people flee from the light? Because they want to hide the darkness that is wtihIN themselves.
That is because HaSatan is a metaphor for the flesh...
2 Corinthians 4:4, "in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God."
1 John 5:19, "We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one."
John 12:31, "Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out."
The evil within us or an actual person who practices deception?
2 Corinthians 11:4, "And no wonder, for Satan himself keeps disguising himself as an angel of light."
The absurdity, never ceases to amaze me:
So, the god of this world, man with his nonsensical beliefs and fables has blinded the minds of unbelievers?
How many of you realize, that you are the one's who practice the god of this worlds deceptions?

How can they? They are blinded by their own belief.
The questions is rather, how can the veil be lifted?
I think those who believe in a literal devil are unable, or unwilling, to accept responsibility for their own behaviour. It's childish and more than a little cowardly, imo.
You believe in ancient fables derived from the ignorance of our savage ancestors, Vizio. We were warned that in the latter days people would follow fables and false teachings. Be careful, Vizio. We all have an internal Serpent that is the source of ALL our inner urges and desires. That is the Serpent that deceived Eve and is the one that deceives each of us by its indiscriminate generation of drives in search of pleasure and in avoidance of pain.
I believe the Bible. I know that might be a foreign concept to you--but I take it for what it says.
