Let's start with this: Not everything you read in scripture is addressed to you, the believer. God recorded a detailed history of man's walk, and the covenants He made with them - but things were said in wrong thinking, acting, correction & rebuke to such, etc. that do not pertain to where you are now, under the covering of His blood.
Now the covenants: briefly, the major 4 covenants begin with the Adamic: YOU can eat freely of the trees of the garden, but of the tree in the midst YOU shall not eat.
>>>Note: The goodness of God is in the word freely, which Eve omitted when she was beguiled by the serpent. She had already fallen in her mind before they ever ate of the fruit. (She didn't quote God's word back to the serpent.) Secondly, most of us miss that all-important name of that tree...
...the knowledge of good and evil. (That will stay with us until we embrace the final covenant.)
The second major covenant is the Abrahamic (no offense, Noah). This is akin to the covenant of grace, as Abraham was his new name & he received righteousness by believing, not through works. This covenant remained on Israel through their bondage in Egypt, and was obviously all that saved them through the Red Sea, gave them food (from heaven), water (from a rock), and defeated Israel's enemy by raising hands. All while they complained, muttered and whined, and begged to go back into slavery.
Genesis 15 is God's covenant with Abraham, and it's a beautiful picture of ALL GOD & no man; Abraham is put into a deep sleep as the fire and the smoke (a picture of the Father and Son) passed between the carcasses, in a declaration that God would keep the covenant with Himself.
>>>Recap: Abraham had a baby with a slave girl, lied (twice) about Sarah being his sister; God did not even mention his sin or their sin...not once...and then the hammer fell - but why?
After God had done all these things for them, He called Moses and told him to pass this message to the people: I have pulled you out of slavery and carried you on eagle's wings, and you are my people forever; now keep my words and remain in my covenant, and (to paraphrase) we'll take over the world!
Remain in my covenant - if only they had. Israel answered with a bold declaration they would do everything God required. Doesn't sound so bad, but when you refer to the original translation, they were boasting that they could and would do anything God could throw at them.
Then God threw it at 'em, all right; this is documented in Exodus 19-20. God didn't change, but His tone definitely did. First the 10 Commandments, then 502 more laws that governed everything about their lives.
>>>Note: the golden calf? Didn't show up until after the law had been given. The law will cause sin to rise to the surface (1 Cor 15:56, Rom. 3:20) That's why God gave them the law - not as a cure, but to show man that he cannot be righteous on his own. (Gal. 3:24)
This covenant remained for 1500 years, but the law is still in effect for the lost.
Jesus' ministry is filled with stories of lifting those hopeless under the law (see the woman with the issue of blood, Mat. 9, Mark 5, Luke 8) and fit to be put to death, as we all are under the law; piling more law on those who thought they were just (see the rich young ruler, Mat. 19, Mark 10, Luke 18) and spite for those who judged the ones whose only hope was grace.

More to come...
This is ironic...There is so much that you are missing here...For one thing, Abraham didn't lie, Sarah was his sister...
Yes Pharaoh of Egypt took Sarah , but God scared him in his dreams and health that Pharaoh kicked Abraham and Sarah out of Egypt ...... Then there is a dispensation of grace which Jesus Holy Spirit is given from the book of Acts 2 , A promise from Father God of the sacrifice of Jesus , for to all those who claim the grace in their live which brings life from God and all His blessings

But why would god allow Sarah to be raped in the first place? Seems this god cares very little aout women and is POWERLESS to protect his most righteous supporter.
If having your wife raped is a blessing, I want a different god that is LOVING and COMPASSIONATE...

Sarah wasn't raped....
