Some Christians believe the creation story in the Bible to be factual, but not all literalists believe in the young earth idea. Out of interest how many on this forum believe that the earth is no more than 10,000 years old at most? I just find it totally amazing that anyone can think the earth is so young, when the evidence pointing to it being very old indeed is so credible
When I was a young teenager in the early 60s, I asked the YEC pastor of the Pentecostal church, I was unfortunate enough to attend, where dinosaurs fitted into his young earth belief. The man said that the deity had put them there as a test of faith! My faith took a serious nose dive after that ludicrous statement!

I believe in the creation story, but I don't think the earth is that young. I think there's room for God and science when it comes to discovery of our planet.

Unknown time period.
The YECs base their age on a misuse of the word "day" both by the meaning in Hebrew and the use in Genesis 1 and 2 and even the context in Genesis 1 which shows the use is not of a 24 hour period.
They are as tied to a faulty belief as those who believe in Macro Evolution.
1- That's not for me to explain because I don't believe that to be the case, therefore that's your issue.
2- All you are doing is taking faith in someone else's assessment that these remains have been around for millions of years.
no issue here, just evidence from MILLIONS and MILLIONS of years gone by...then again, LUCY is probably just a fabrication of our imagination. Nothing to see here, keep moving towards blissful denial..
The YECs are unquestionably the weirdest segment of Christianity. Genesis 1 by no means mandates a YEC position, yet the YECs view holding this position in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary as a badge of honor and the highest evidence of their faithfulness to God. Ken Ham has a one-minute segment every afternoon on American Family Radio, and it is simply the most jaw-dropping nonsense imaginable. His one yesterday assured us there were 50 species of dinosaurs on Noah's Ark. I have read a fair amount of the YEC "evidence," and it is utterly fascinating in its contortions to avoid dealing with reality. God PLANTED the red shift to make the universe APPEAR old??? In any event, the YECs are not simply misguided - they are an embarrassment to Christianity and an impediment to non-believers taking the faith seriously. God created an intelligible universe and gave us the intelligence and analytical abilities to investigate and understand it (at least to a large extent); to take the position that we can't trust our lying eyes and brains is pathetic.

In the whole scheme of things - it's really not that big of a deal.
A follower of Christ can hold either view of a young or old earth.
