He's a JW. Radically different theology. Both claim to be God's only true church, ironically, though.

Yes, in years past, it was common practice for the Catholic Church to claim it was the one and only true church. However, modern interpretations of dogmas and a move towards inclusion has seen the Church move away from that claim. Most recently, Pope Francis has been very clear in his belief that there are many paths to salvation.

Fundies ignore all inconvenient truths.
On the plus side, that's hastening their extinction.
It's difficult to keep next generations as determinedly ignorant as is necessary for full membership in fundieland.

Exactly.
What people also forget is that when Catholic dogma was formed, the Catholic Church was the ONLY Christian religion. So at that time, it WAS the only true church. But the Catechism is still relevant today. “Those, through no fault of their own, who do not know the truth may still be saved.” Originally, this meant that those who never heard Gods word wouldn’t be punished. But rather, if they led good and decent lives could find salvation. Today, it can be interpreted this way. You were born, raised and led a Protestant life. It’s not your fault that you don’t know Catholic dogma. As long as you led a good life, God isn’t going to punish you just because you aren’t Catholic.

That's pretty much my interpretation too.
The "one true church" is used by the detractors, but in reality nobody really thinks or adheres to that.
And yes, Pope Francis has indeed stated that there are many paths, which includes other denominations and other religions.

The Bible not the Pope makes it very clear there is only ONE way to salvation......
