It all depends on his religious convictions and whether or not, they are a frame of reference to his understanding?
That can be and often is a significant source of bias, Jer! Also, as a Psychiatrist, he would be a medical doctor and it would matter greatly what his psychological training was in. For example, many are trained from psychoanalysis (Freud, Adler, Jung, etc.) which has largely been discredited by the empiricists.
Usually an exorcist won't even show up someplace unless the person in question (the possessed) has taken all manner of exhaustive psychological tests. A real exorcist from the Vatican, that is.

No reputable exorcist will go near a case unless the person has been thoroughly examined for psychological problems. They also would be wary of publicizing their work. Publicity brings problems including spiritual hypochondriacs.
The specific mental aberration most likely to be demon-possession is the MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder) because of the scriptural passage of Mark Chapter 5 describing a demon-possessed man. When Jesus addresses the man, the demonic presence identifies in Plural by making itself known as Legion. Obviously, there were numerous demons inhabiting him just as the mental aberration of MPD exhibits a multiple presence.

The man was not in his right mind, it had nothing to do with a legion of demons.
I had put those childish fears away decades before I ever adopted theism. As a concession to your fears, I can conceive of some humans so irredeemably evil from our savage past that they somehow became spirits after their death but remained here unfit to join God or Jesus. I concede it is a remote possibility. But I do not believe it is true.
I am of divided mind. On the one hand, our Lord is perfect and so therefore his designs are perfect, too. Kind of hard to imagine that some of the creatures He makes are defective and beyond redemption. On the other hand . . . once in a while you see evil that is so damned evil that it seems explicable only in terms of cosmic forces.
The latter perception may be a product of my primitive fears. Like you, I'm sticking with the perfect God and the perfect universe of His making, in which there are no rejects. Who am I to tell God who He can't save?
Just ran across this strange current event of an Exorcist, Stephen Rosetti: Stephen Rosetti of Washington,D.C., is an exorcist, licensed psychologist and counselor who is warning Catholics that demons have figured out how to send threatening text-messages to their targets. The Daily Star reported that Rosetti claims to have "three cases in which demons have texted the team and/or the family of the possessed person. All were high-value targets with high-ranking, powerful demons involved." For example, one text read, "Her torments start now, priest...all night. We will make her bleed." Rosetti points to a long history of demons influencing technology, such as flickering lights and TVs.
Jehovah's name is a very powerful tool against literal demon attacks.
