I am going to be brutally honest and say I was much happier as an agnostic. Now my conscience is forever making me feel guilty. But I will continue to believe it is the Truth.
We are "promised" a vague sort of "joy", but I doubt the word "happiness" is mentioned in the Bible. We are also guaranteed "suffering", yay.
yes there's one that specifically mentions the word "happy", (Psalm 144:15 Happy are the people whose God is the LORD!). but there's many verses that speak on another word for "Happy" which is "JOY!" see words here, (John 15:11 These things have I spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full). and (Romans 15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit).
your "conscience" is trying to lead you in the right direction. which is by means of Jehovah God's Holy Spirit. satan wants us to feel a negative certain way, and he has MANY in his grasp. he does NOT want us to gain the truth, (1Cor. 4:4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them). which will give us that life of peace and true happiness. here's what Jehovah God Promises those who gives him a chance and follow Jesus teachings about him.
(1). Psa. 37:9-11 For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the Lord, They shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more. But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace, (NEVER allow satan and those he sent, to make you believe ,that this wicked world is ALL we will ever have). Jesus said (Matt. 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth). there will soon be NO wicked or Nay Sayers around to confuse those who's already confused.
(2).Job 33:25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youthno one will ever look old).
(3). Isa. 35:5,6 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing:...(EVERY physical problem will be removed).
(4). Isa.11:6-9 , The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them, (animals and Humans will live together in peace. do we see that now?
(5). Isaiah 65:21,22 - And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them... (NO MORE Homeless or Hunger, everyone will have a shelter and food).
(6). Rev.21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (Jesus and Jehovah God will soon remove the pass as we know it, from our hearts and minds. no more sadness)!
so please, regardless of what some chose to believe, Jehovah God and Jesus LOVES US! they want us to know the truth, satan has MANY trying to keep us from knowing and wanting the truth. we can either believe MAN or believe God. their plans for Humans, was NEVER TO Suffering, satan caused this. by getting the first PERFECT couple to disobey Jehovah God.
this is why we ALL now suffer. for those who like this world as it is, it's their world, and will be destroyed with it. but for those who's so very tired, Jehovah and Jesus provided an escape! yet it's up to us if want it, either way, what Jehovah God promise he will do ,(Psa. 89:34 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips). have peace, I will pray for you.

but what if it's the words from the Bible? it does speak of an evil (2Cor. 11:14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light). satan makes things seem as though it's from God.
here ,(Ephe. 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil). speaks of if one put on God's protected armor, satan can't trick us.
and here (2Cor. 2:11 lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices). when we're close to Jehovah God and Jesus. we WILL know when satan is trying to pull a fast one. oh, satan is very real! peace

The Satan you refer to has fooled everyone who believes what is written in scripture WITHOUT TESTING it against the "Mind of Christ" as revealed and demonstrated by Jesus Christ on the Cross. Jesus unambiguously demonstrated that God is agape love and forgiving, even of His torturers and murderers because we know not what we do.
Anything that was written in the scriptures that contradicts or is NOT compatible or consistent with the "Mind of Christ" is NOT from God or Jesus, period! You can NOT properly judge or understand what is from God or Jesus if you are NOT in the states of mind associated with God's Holy Spirit of agape love and forgiveness as revealed by the "Mind of Christ."
