Was never a big fan of "Cincinnati Chili." To me it is not chili at all, more like a watery meat sauce. True chili to me is texas chili.

Yeah it's been said by a few here that the simple tag of "Cincinnati Chili" hurts its reputation. But really, it's not trying to be Texas chili! It really is just a meat sauce of sorts. It also just happens to be much better than Texas chili. Oh yeah.

You can have your opinion and that is OK. But I would say the sheer number of Cincinnati style chili parlors in the region says you have missed something. I like Texas style (though I would rather call it Southwestern and not give specific credit to Texas and increase their super-ego), but I also am a big fan of Cincinnati style.

Now cut him some slack. He actually signed up just to make that profound statement.

To me, Texas Chili means no beans and no tomatoes. In fact, the expert sites claim that the only vegetable is chili peppers. And, meat is optional, then called chili con carne.

I have adapted my own chili con carne recipe to include a small amount of beans and tomato, but is based on several types of sweet and hot peppers, dried peppers and fresh roasted.

I doubt many people really like real Texas chili outside of Texas.

There are a lot of good chili places in Cincinnati but they cannot be lumped together. "Cincinnati chili" or Greek chili is not any more comparable to "chili" than "Philly Cheesesteak" is to "steak."

Anyways, I have to go back to Cincinnati for work thing again for two days next week, and I was wondering if Skyline is the best place or if there are even better place to go for Cincinnati-style Chili. What are your thoughts?

My taste buds thank you in advance for all suggestions.
If you're in the neighborhood, try Chili Time, at 4727 Vine Stret in St Bernard. Excellent chili and conies -

Instead of arguing about what constitutes chili, let us rejoice in our local offerings. Think about it Cincy, most of the US has never experienced a Cincinnati Chili 3-way or any other way. Those of you who know how great it can be should relish the fact you are in a small minority in the US.

Those who feel the streetcar should attract tourists to Cincy should appreciate what we already have. Just warn them ahead of time they may have to alter their concept of chili. I for one am grateful to the Greeks for bringing this concoction to our shores and making it successful, even including the Germans who were here first. My attitude is if it is good it is good, regardless of who created it.

HA! Actually I have been a member of the forums for years, but since my last move I changed e-mail addresses and cannot remember my user name.

Anyways, I have lived all over the US and lived in Cincinnati for 5 years. There are a lot of things I love about Cincinnati, but the chili is not one of them. A 3 way just tastes so bland to me...at Skyway the noodles just seem like they are never drained well enough and maybe that is what makes the sauce so "watery." However, put that on a hot dog with loads of cheese and I could eat about 50 of those...but I will never call it chili!

To me, chili is a thick concoction full of ground beef, beans, tomatoes, and other vegetables. I tend to like mine a little spicy, topped with cheese, sour cream, and green onions. It may very well not be "Texas chili," and I agree, I am more than happy to not give them any credit!

I assume you mean Skyline. Skyway was a liquor store near the airport. It has closed down.

I like all kinds of chili but I like Cincinnati Chili because of its uniqueness.
