I understand. Actually, I love moments like that when you run into someone who shares a common interest or experience unexpectedly. Certainly attending the same school is exciting for people as well.

I did not go to a parochial school, which immediately puts me in a different catagory, particularly on the West Side.

I graduated from a small public school, Maderia in 1957, very easy to remember, since we had a grand total of 57 graduates. We would have had more but some did not make the final cut. A small school by any standards.

But when I think back at many of my classmates and what they went on to achieve in life, I don't feel drawn back by anything. At that time we had some fabulous teachers, who encouraged us to go out and strive for our life's ambitions. They were great teachers and definitely responsible for what many of us achieved later in life. So if someone asks me what school I went to, as a native Cincinnatian I will respond Madeira, Class of '57 - So What!

Wow that's sad. You got one kid probably bragging that his dad is a scientist with 15 patents and the other one boasting that his dad is manager of some other division.

Midland is literally a one horse town.. DOW pretty much owns it. Not too different than the 70s when everyone seemed to be associated with the big 3 or one of their various suppliers in Detroit metro

I worked for a large company in Ann Arbor (largest employer outside of the University) -- when people found out where I worked, they immediately asked if i knew "so and so".. with closing in on 5000 employees - I rarely did.

I understand the desire to look for common ground. And I certainly undrerstand the desire of children to identify and rank themselves against one another by parents occupations..

I still don't get the school = high school for adults well past high school age. I accept all of your explanations for it, and believe them ... but for us, school = college, if you attended, and after you've been working in your career for 5 or more years... who cares?

Feel free to move on to the next thread if this one doesn't interest you.

1. Nope. Never heard of her.
2. Yeah, he was chill. I dated his cousin.
3. Yeah, she was a skank.
4. Yes he was a tool.
5. No, I heard of him but I was friends with his little brother.
LOL. I ran this one past all my west-side friends, and they approve your message.

OMG, I didn't expect this thread to explode like it did. As most have suggested it was a bad joke from an outsider. I've been mostly a big city person, but so far, I like it here. It's a little quiet, but it has everything I need, getting around is easy, things are affordable, and the people are nice!

I guess I'm a little puzzled...is that question really that important to you? Perhaps, it is a Cincinnati thing?!
Well, anyway, I hope that someone makes your day by asking you very soon.

det2011sb, I understand what you meant. You were just trying to say Cincinnati is not as provincial as some locals believe it to be. The thread was meant to be a compliment. Seems to have gone over many people's heads.
