Not at all. NYC is better for an average person than an "elite". Obviously you're not familiar with NYC at all.

I go to NYC frequently. It is the most expensive, fast-paced and competitive city in the U.S. by a significant margin. I know lots of former New Yorkers who couldn't hack it living there. How is that better for the average person?

Well, by NY, I mean the whole area including Alpine.

Most people who live in this area have higher salaries than the rest of the nation, so the average person in the NY metro area doesn't find the prices to be all that much higher compared to someone from Kansas or Iowa.

Also, the average person here knows what's what in NY - most expensive city, but when you know what's what it can be one of the cheapest cities. I know where to get excellent meals in every cuisine for the same price that Chili's or some other chain restaurant would cost, and these have better service, food, and atmosphere. I also know where to get the best street food which is cheap. I also know some of the more fine dining establishements which are relatively not that expensive.

I can get culture, art and music, for very little money or free. I've been a member at MoMA and the Met, it's only around $100 and you get to go for free all year, plus invitations to events where you rub shoulders with the "elite", the patrons of the museums who are donating MILLIONS compared to my $100-something (or less).

It's geared towards the masses here - the transportation, the attractions, the nightlife, the dining, the culture, etc. For an elite, wealthy person you can always buy "the best", anywhere; but in NYC an average person can easily taste "the best" from time to time and usually gets "the best" of the non-"elite" things. NYC is a great place for the elite, sure, but it's a great place for the average joe, in fact it's a better deal for the average joe.

New York attracts the global elite. London is the only other city in the world that can really compare.

1. NY 2. Beverly Hills, 3. Palm Beach 4. Hamptons 5. Aspen

I remember the last time I was in NYC, right when I pulled up to the hotel in the taxi, some couple coming out of a Rolls-Royce Phantom into a residential building in Midtown with a chauffeur, doorman bringing out her shopping bags and the woman screaming on the phone "No, you're going on the wrong direction dahhling - Cannes is East, Monaco is West! Turn around! We'll meet there tomorrow!"

How funny, I couldn't get over that. LOL!!

I don't know if Beverly Hills is the richest in CA, but it belongs in glamorous! I love it!!!

And the crowd in Palm Beach is very...New York. It seems as if half seem to be NYers away on the weekend.

Hamptons is beautiful but I've only been there in the winter and it was deserted. I guess they're in Palm Beach during the winter.

Aspen is also beautiful!!

Sounds like my mother-in-law.

Did she happen to have a Brazilian/Italian accent?

I don't know how her son turned out so down-to-earth with a mother like that.

Look man, if you want quality, you have to pay UP. That's true everywhere. And especially true in NYC.
