Houston
Dallas
San Antonio
Austin
Fort Worth
New Orleans
Little Rock
Oklahoma City
Tulsa

any criteria can be used. In fairness to the smaller cities, population should not be given the most weight.

Dallas and Houston shares Texas. Louisiana is split between Dallas and Houston outside of New Orleans. Northwest Mississippi is Dallas extremely overlapped and Southwest Mississippi is Houston shared with New Orleans. Arkansas and Oklahoma is influenced more by Dallas.

What, no Baton Rouge???

I would say it's split between Dallas and Houston overall, with some other cities like New Orleans and OKC having a more local influence in their general areas.

The thing with New Orleans is that it doesn't touch Houston in population in relation to the Gulf Coast. No city does. But culturally and especially historically, New Orleans was the big city for decades if not centuries for the Gulf Coast region. I think that still exists to this day and when I mean Gulf Coast, I mean the area from Lafayette east to Pensacola.

Baton Rouge is actually starting to even look and feel like Houston.

Economy- Houston has the bigger industry. Dallas has more industries. It has a more diverse economy than Houston. Houston's GDP is bigger but not by much.
Agree with National Importance
Shipping= equal. Houston has the seaport. Dallas has the airport which is one of the top cargo airports in the nation
Won't argue for the next three.
Better museums= Houston
Better Arts Scene= shared and Dallas in the near future could have the superior Arts district when they are complete with construction.

The way it's developing. Also, the architecture and culture is the same... It's like Gulf meets Cajun meets Traditional South. Can't forget the refineries and the fact that the economy is heavily petrochemical. South Baton Rouge would look almost identical to Sugar Land or somewhere if the added 4 more lanes to the freeway. The new feeder roads make them seem even closer.
