Why are we talking about Phily and NYC, when clearly the question is which city dominate its region, Boston, Atlanta, and Chicago? Some how Phily snuck in...

This comparison is kind of silly IMO. "New England" (as defined here at least) is a much smaller region (both geographically and population-wise) than the "Midwest" or "Southeast". So, of course Boston dominates New England more than the others, like how Denver "dominates" Colorado or Minneapolis "dominates" Minnesota.

I'm not sure if that means anything though.

Heck, instead of Boston, maybe Denver dominating the Rocky Mountain states would have been a better comparison.

Thank you. The past few pages have been so unnecessary.

Well as it pertains to the topic.Atlanta does dominate the Southeast..Miami just does not have the draw of people Atlanta does for business, education and even just living there.Out of the three of these however ,its easily Boston as I said earlier.Their just is no other competition for it in New England.

Miami metro is the largest in the southeast.

That was my train of thought as I was deciding my vote. I mean no disrespect, but Boston dominating New England is not as impressive as Chicago in the Midwest or Atlanta in the Southeast.

Yes the Miami metro is the largest of the Southeast, the Southeast of Florida!

Seriously, nothing against Miami, Miami is hot, but the city is far away from the majority of the Southeast. It even looks like from a map that even parts of Northern Florida like Pensacola and Tallahassee are closer to Atlanta than they are Miami! And then there is the cultural factor.

What does that have to do with anything? It is in the southeast region. It isn't as if the midwest isn't large either, or culturally diverse and different from the great lakes, to the plains, etc.

I think that is precisely what the poster is referring to. The Midwest and Southeast are huge and contain many different cities and sub-cultures; yet Chicago is the city you think of when it comes to the Midwest and Atlanta is the city you think of when it comes to the Southeast. Also, Atlanta's CSA is larger than Miami's MSA. Of course, that may not suffice to some people but just saying the metro population difference between the two is negligible.
