Colorado has a great variety from the vast plains to the Rockies and foothills. Gets my vote.

As for a state on the coast I say California.

Haha yeah it is. I actually grew up in Denver though so I have enough memories of camping in the Rockies to make up for it.

From the one's I've been to: California, New York, Vermont, West Virginia
What I'd imagine to be the most beautiful: Alaska, Hawaii, Colorado, Wyoming, Washington, Oregon

California has so much geographic/climate diversity, it automatically earns the #1 spot IMO

California by far for me. Oregon is nice but the diversity in California makes it a truly pretty state. That's not to say that EVERYTHING in CA is pretty but most of it is. (parts of the central valley). Monterey, Sf, Yosemite, Tahoe, Shasta, death valley, San Diego, northern coast, desert, wine country, beaches, and so on are among the very pretty places in CA

Yeah to be honest, coastal states of west coast is intensely beautiful. 3 states together is home to true rain forest of northwest(only one of FEW left in earth) and sunniest spot in world in the southwest. All three states have wineyards, all of these also have majestic mountains of the Cascades, home to snowiest spot on earth at 1,140 inches of snow in an annual season to sierra, home to highest peak in mainland US. All three states also have huge high-desert region including true deserts. Not to mention worlds tallest tree (480 feet documented, douglas fir of oregon and worlds most massive sequoias and redwoods of california and redwoods of oregon. All in one skinny west coast states? Washington, oregon, and california region is, my opinion, worlds most diverse, most beautiful and scenic place in the whole planet Earth. No other place have that kind of geography, climate, and such of difference in one little region in huge globe.
