i just read two days ago about richmond, va and the statement made by the fbi and another tracker of violent crime (moreno???), and the warning about not accepting these numbers and what information they might imply to a reader. first, if an agency like the fbi, which is by all accounts, a reputable organization, why waste the time gathering information that is virtually useless. it doesn't give a true reflection of a city's crime, it isn't reputable, according to the fbi, it isn't useful to fbi, etc.

both of tn's largest are always in the top 25, and most of the time in the top 10. nashville-davidson county-franklin-williamson county-murfressboro-rutherford county metro wised up and changed their reporting methods, as they were coming in as number 4, 7, 9, and 7, during the last several years. memphis has kept the same reporting procedures it has used for years. the contiguous urban population of roughly 1.2 million residents covers approximately a 27 sq mile area from the downtown cbd. most of these crimes occurred in the city proper, and most in three particular zip codes. most murders were black on black, as it has been historically.

it is ridiculous to believe that is less dangerous and more likely to be harmed in memphis than new york city, southside chicago, or west l.a. yet, this comes out each year bearing the same useless and misapplied statistics.

Well, it'd be nice if Camden was off for good reason, but this list only includes cities w/ at least 100,000 residents. If it was a master list (all cities) Camden would probably be high on there.

I'll never understand peoples obsession with Camden. It's the size of many bad neighborhoods in larger cities. What's the difference between Camden & East New York other than Municipality? NYC at large absorbs ENY's stats where Camden's stats have to stand alone. That's the only difference to me.
It's bad, no doubt.................... But it's also a very small city.

So if you and 19 friend lived in East St. Louis for 50 years then statisticly one of them would be murdered.

YUCK! However, where are the Maywood, ILs; Harvey, ILs; Compton, CAs;, or other [fill in your ghetto inner-ring suburb here] suburbs? I thought Maywood, IL, for instance, had approx 20-30 homicides annually, with a city pop between 25K and 30K?
