I would choose Chicago's weather over Austin's for most months of the year. I like some winter, and the rest of the year's climate is definitely my preference. I would never live anywhere, just to avoid a couple of months of winter.
Not saying it won't get cold, but the funny thing about that accuweather "prediction" is that they said we can expect heavy snowfall early in the year with extremely cold temperatures also early in the year.
Turns out we had one of the warmest early winters in history, and also almost broke the record for the longest into the season with no snowfall at all.
Accuweather is a for-profit company who puts these "predictions" out to get attention.
This is why Denver doesn't have the same (or better) winter experience as Chicago.....because it's hardly ever cold enough to enjoy winter activities.
I think you have it the other way around. The winters in the midwest are To cold to enjoy. Denver has the perfect blend of some days that are cold with alot of snow, and sunny and in the 60s weather.
One of the reasons why this whole thread was ridiculous to begin with was the fact that Chicago was experiencing such an unusually long entended warm period this year. In fact when this thread started Denver and much of the SW was having unseasonable cold temperatures. For example when this thread was started places like Phoenix and Vegas were actually colder than Chicago. Does this mean Chicago has milder winters than those cities as well? Southern NM was in the single digits for high temps.LOL

This thread is about Chicago & Denver, not Austin. I don't really understand the rest of your post, either-- I don't live here to avoid winter. I was raised & went to college in CO. I have no delusions about Austin weather, in fact I probably agree with you on that.
The overwhelming theme of this thread is about Denver having a much more desirable winter than Chicago, and one equivocal poster who chooses to believe the opposite.
Over one hundred years of weather trends say otherwise.
