I've found Ft Collins to be pretty similar in character to Boise.

How about the other end of the country? Manchester, NH averages 45 inches of snow a year, and Portland, ME averages over 60.

Boone, NC gets over 30 inches of snow a year but based on the cities listed, it's probably too small.

Fargo, Sioux Falls, & Minneapolis probably deserve a look as winter cities. Minneapolis is fairly liberal, but you don't have the dry climate problem.

Do you think the OP is still looking around? He started this thread 6 years ago. Olim2005 must not have realized this thread is old when he or she bumped it.

Boise/Spokane/Reno. Very similar in some ways. Of course there are variations.

Boise: modified pacific climate, but still at risk of inland snowfall, hot dry summers. Very high-tech, mostly conservative, excellent downtown, good in-city living. Friendly.

Spokane: also modified pacific climate, but colder than Boise, year 'round. Nice historic areas, growing to the east in Spokane Valley, but somewhat slower growth.

Reno: Best weather of the three, but relies on tourism moreso. Growing, but seems less friendly IMO. Has more of CA/Vegas feel.

I'd recommend Colorado Springs (metro 712,000) or perhaps Ogden, UT. Less LDS influence, close enough to SLC with a metro of around 575,000.

Ogden, less LDS influence when compared to SLC?

Doesn't the Osmond clan account for like 30% of the population of Ogden?

Possibly. I was wondering if Kar54's comment was referring to Ogden having less LDS influence compared to ....?

According to Sperling's, over 62% of Ogden is LDS.
