We just moved from Germantown to Annapolis and love it. DC is 30 minutes away and Baltimore is 30 minutes away. (I commute to DC and the wife to Baltimore). The town has such a unique and historic and vibrant downtown and waterfront and we love being so close to the bay. The entire area just has a different vibe to it while most of the rest of suburbs around DC and Baltimore could be anywhere USA.
I would probably live in Chicago if I could live in the city and didn’t have kids etc. But I would not like living in the burbs of Chicago.
I really like Annapolis. It’s unique, it’s interesting, it’s sort of European and it’s on the water. It’s smack between DC and Baltimore, Ocean City is very close for us, Philly and Virginia are easy to get to. Location Location Location.
Annapolis is one of the coolest little towns in the country IMHO.
But to be fair this is an odd comparator and to your point Annapolis is basically living in the DC/Baltimore metro
But I just love weekend trips (under two hours) down to Annapolis, am jealous a bit; plus is the sailing capital of America I believe, not to mention home to the Naval Academy, oh and did anyone say crabcakes...
You mention location, location, location - that is definately one of the best attributes about living in the NE, everything is so close and so many things to do...

The pictures of Annapolis are nice, but I would easily go with Chicago, as it's a much bigger, more urban city with more to do. Also, there's plenty of sailing on lake Michigan
While I like Chicago as a city, I think I would have to lean towards Annapolis on the basis of climate and location. Even though Annapolis itself is a smaller city, it's part of one of the largest CSA's, and is in close proximity to several other large metros, the mountains, and ocean beaches.
My immediate reaction is Chicago! However, after giving this one some thought, I would perhaps have to choose Annapolis. Annapolis is such an intriguing place. So Chicago would be an easy choice but I think that the fun choice here is Annapolis! Especially with Washington D.C. Being so close. Baltimore is an underrated city that is not far as well. You can also catch a Redskins game in Landover and a Terrapins game in College Park.
yea i beleive annapolis falls under the Baltimore metro area not DC but you still 30 mins from both..
i would easily pick chicago..there is nothing exciting about annapolis to me
