Once again, in one of these videos it is reiterated that the USOC and IOC favor "dense" bids as opposed to regional/dual city.
New York is as dense as it gets in the States. Its also denser than London is.

Yes it is. LOL. Yes Austinite, we all know how much you want New York to host the Summer Olympics.

I think it would be EPIC!

I dont think this is very good to say and go by but what all that matters to me is what the other countrie are going to think about our country. I think we need to choose a city that shows the best of the states and i think we should pick a city like los angeles or new york or even chicago, maybe even dallas, but detroit is just a no no for me!

If it has to be anywhere, the bottom of the list should be the South. It's just too hot for that, and each city here is just not dense enough by Olympic standards.

Where would Dallas host the sailing events? Have those events ever been held on a lake before?

No, never on a lake. It is always on the coast of the host nation. Paris did it with Le Havre 115 miles away. Atlanta did it with Wassaw Sound over 235 miles away. Beijing's sailing events were over 340 miles away. So, somewhere on the Texas coast, perhaps? I nominate South Padre Island! Or Corpus Christi! However, it is quite common for Sailing and some Cycling to be held far from a host city. Soccer is also typically scattered about the host nation. Cowboys Stadium and FC Dallas Stadium could host some soccer matches, but I am pretty sure there would be other venues for soccer either around the state or in adjacent states. This past Olympics some soccer matches were in Scotland.

As far as all the other events, there is potential for Dallas to host all of them within Loop 12, within a 3-4 mile radius of Fair Park/"Olympic Park", and all within walking distance of DART Rail stations. Rowing can easily be done on White Rock Lake since it is 4000 meters long and rowing only requires 2000 meters. Lots of potential...time will tell.

really? how many venues are we talking about here?

The London Olympics were put on across 40 venues. Sailing, rowing, some cycling and some soccer were held out of London, but just about everything else was held in London.

I am asking, because most of these events get put on simultaneously. How many venues are there in Fair Park? Can it really host swimming, Track and Field, Diving, boxing weightlifting, archery, martial arts, Ribbon twirling, etc etc at about the same time?

Yes. The plan is to transform Fair Park and the Cotton Bowl into Olympic Park and Olympic Stadium, respectively. There is plenty of land around Fair Park with abandoned houses/apartments/warehouses (similar to East London) that is ripe for redevelopment. Dallas has been looking for a way to keep the Cotton Bowl viable and to redevelop the area around Fair Park for years. Swimming and Diving would be in an on site aquatics center. There would be a gymnastics center for gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics (your ribbon twirling), Track and Field in Cotton Bowl/Olympic Stadium, archery on an existing field on the east side of Fair Park. Martial arts and badminton, according to some articles I have read, can be held in existing buildings within Fair Park. Believe it or not this is all possible. The USOC visited the area and the organizers for Dallas 2012 got an earful from the USOC about how they undervalued Fair Park. They basically said Fair Park is staring you right in the face as a potential Olympic Park.
