Umm...how would hosting the Olympic games in a city like Las Vegas be preventing people from thinking about greed in the U.S.?
Compared to Wall Street greed which most people hate, a person blowing a few hundred bucks on slots is actually considered fun by most people around the world---hence Vegas having nonstop flights from all over the world despite being a desert city of only 2 million----the world already flocks there for FUN.
Bernie Madoff vs Blackjack----most people would pick the latter.
Los Angeles has hosted the games TWICE and if LA put together a top notch bid could probably win AGAIN, and yet NY, our most powerful and universally heralded city hasnt even hosted once.
The USOC needs to remember that many IOC members hail from countries that relish the opportunity to vote AGAINST the US because they harbor resentment over perceived injustices--and this vote is at least one chance to get comeuppance.
London and Paris are both in Europe yet they both bested New York, which should have swept Asian and Latin American votes, but apparently didnt as NYC was eliminated while London and Paris went on to the final round of voting.

I think there some truth to this. If the USOC were to submit a bid, its objective should be actually having the Games awarded. Most people expressing an opinion seem to be hung up on what US city is most “deserving”, based on size, profile, or whether it has hosted before. Like any of that that actually matters. It makes no sense to look at this like AYSO, where everybody plays.
The people voting on it will spend many weeks in whatever city wins, and their perceptions, accurate or not, will affect their choices. Of course, they also need to be bribed, but first things first. Los Angeles (hedonism, Mexico Jr), San Francisco (decidedly non-conservative, Apple) or Seattle (Ecotopia, Microsoft) and Miami (sex, latin vibe) are more appealing to those folks than traditional American icons like NY or Chicago. Look at how quickly those cities were eliminated previously. And of these, LA is actually the “safe” bet to win.
The US didn't make any bid for the 2020 Olympics, so maybe it will bid in 2024. In 2024, it will have been 28 years since the US has hosted the Summer Games.
New York has never hosted, but I feel like the majority of residents including myself wouldn't such a gigantic event here, so I don't see a New York Olympic bid happening any time soon.
Despite its loss for the 2016 games, I still think Chicago would be an excellent host city.
Boston or Philadelphia would be awesome too. They are great cities, and it would be cool to have the Olympics in one of the two most historical US cities that are the birthplaces of this country. There has never been an East Coast Summer Olympics, so either one of these cities would be great.
San Francisco or Seattle would be good choices too. The scenery in the areas would provide a stunning backdrop for the games, and both are fantastic cities.
A Texas Olympics could be an interesting choice. Though I'm not sure what city would be the best choice. San Antonio, perhaps?
I think that Houston is too hot in the summer. Can you imagine having to run elite distance races like the marathon in the Houston summer? Atlanta may have killed the chances of any hot summer cities. NYC is already borderline, but at least they can move the Olympics to September and be ok. Houston would have to move the "Summer" Olympics to mid-October. Not unprecedented though.
We just hosted the marathon qualifiers in January when temps were unseasonably hot (and it didn't seem to be a problem). Most people like to harp on our weather (which we can't control yet are always punished for). If the World Cup can be played in Dubai without heat being a factor, then the weather isn't REALLY what's keeping the games out of Houston...
