And I never suggested that you did. I was responding to your original assertion that DTLA and DT Houston have similar amenities, with DTLA just having more and on a bigger scale.

Yeah, there is definitely more foot traffic than a place like Downtown Houston or Atlanta, but it really doesnt offer that much more. The same activities I did in DTLA are the same ones a do in Downtown Houston, its just on a bigger scale.
My point was that it's more than DTLA having more of the same as DT Houston. DTLA has tons of things that don't exist in DT Houston at all. Having thriving ethnic neighborhoods and a very popular entertainment scene (outside of events), and the fashion district are very significant differences imo.

And maybe that goes both ways to an extent. DTLA doesn't have a pedestrian underground which I find very cool. Still as cool as it is, that maybe more than anything could be what has held DT Houston back. So much is down there, but it takes away from street level activity and then nothing is open or accessible outside work hours.

The city and Silicon Valley has turned the area corporate and sterile. DTLA has downtown SF beat in the clubs, bars, lounges, party department. Plus the Downtowns of SF and pretty much every major city is the heart and life-beat of the entire metro area while DTLA has always had to compete with the likes of Hollywood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Manhattan Beach, Old Town Pasadena, etc. who all have their own set of restaurants, bars, and nightlife.
My October trip to downtown San Francisco-

Took BART from Hayward, got out at Embarcadero around 4 pm on a SATURDAY. Long story short, the only food option I could find there was Chipotle (where I could sit down inside and eat). I would have better off walking around the strip malls of Hayward.
