I've heard that 'incorrectly attributed' cliche since I was little and always took it as a positive until I started reading this site.

Montreal doesn't have the great geographic restrictions that SF has which causes SF to build up a bit more. It also has a height restriction in not allowing any building be taller than the peak of Mount Royal. They would either need to abolish the restriction or Montreal would have to be large and dense enough to have people build towering skyscrapers outside of city limits.

On the other hand, there is absolutely NO mistaking where this is:
Montreal does have some pretty unique buildings, neighborhoods and cityscapes and there are many areas that are recognizably Montreal--however, Montreal is not nearly as well known, visited or publicized as SF overall so relatively few people will even know what to recognize.

Seriously, it's a positive in my book.

Heat is for the devil.

I would not recognize this as SF at all.

Now the city view at the start of Too Close for Comfort - yes.

I have been to both San Francisco and Montreal this year (San Francisco in January and Montreal in early July). Both are great cities but Montreal definitely had more buzz and felt like a bigger, busier city. The city center was a beehive of activity day and night, which was particularly impressive given that there is essentially a parallel city running underground. Having also been to Chicago this year, I must rank Montreal as the second most vibrant city in North America (ex Mexico). My only caveat is that I have not been to Toronto in many years so don't know how it compares today.

That's you. Most people would know it's SF quite easily

Even in random pics, SF is extremely unique and easy to recognize.

For the pics you chose, most for maybe anyone outside of California would be a gross overstatement. Most, as in majority, likely requires you show a landmark such as cable cars, the Golden Gate bridge, or something along those lines in the picture. Internationally, I don't think there's a single city where a random streetscape shot is recognizable for a majority of people without some kind of famous landmark included.

Wow, I was blindsided by how much vibrancy Montreal had. I'm....EXTREMELY impressed. Easily top 5 in NA for activity in the core.
