Why? Our people might pay the most money to live here, but we also are the most financially responsible and have the highest credit scores in the United States.

Metro areas' average credit ratings revealed

In fact, why don't I see any really cheap cities in the ranking of best credit? Minneapolis and Madison are always creditworthy so they aren't a surprise but I mean for all the bellyaching about how terrible it is to live here based on cost of living and how much easier it is in Dallas to afford, why isn't Dallas among the cities with the highest credit scores but SF IS? SJ too btw.

Food for thought.

So with all the supposed savings people have in Texas from far lower mortgage payments, apparently they aren't more financially stable after all.

Interesting.

Why? Californian cities are expensive for a reason. You get what you pay for.

Pretty good graphic right here that expresses the wages adjusted for COL.

Its always convenient, because yes, in fact the Bay Area operates as one metro are. Dont care about the govt def, which will obviously change at some point.
Did you see the title of the poll? DFW Metroplex vs San Francisco Bay Area ..

Yet for all the perceived advantages of wages adjusted for COL, the following is still the case:

Families on Food Stamps, 2011
Metroplex 256,09.....10.5% of all families
Bay Area 150,627......5.6% of all families

No Health Insurance, 2011
Metroplex 1,515,988....22.2% of the population
Bay Area 912,395........12.2% of the population

Working but recieve no health care insurance from employer, 2011
Metroplex 787,029...25.3% of all workers
Bay Area 487,422....14.1% of all workers

Honestly a lot of this speaks to the quality of jobs being created in these 2 regions.

Definitely the quality of jobs are better in San Fran. But the wages adjusted for COL still matters. Houston and Dallas are really killing it right now.

Do you notice a trend in the list of metro areas and their credit scores? Places like Boston, the Bay Area, Seattle, MSP and Madison, all areas that score high in educated residents, score high. While places like Memphis, El Paso, Las Vegas and Columbia have bad scores and are not as educated.

Interesting, given these statistics I was surprised by this stat:

With Cash Public Assistance Income:
Metroplex 41,237............1.7%
Bay Area 83,404.............3.1%

Yeah, educational attainment definitely has a lot to do with that.

The Metroplex has a lower cost of living, but clearly people there are not better off overall than people in the Bay Area.
