Cuisine, SF wins hands down. Dallas is made up primarily of chains and franchises and is too far inland to get good seafood.
.
Im sorry, but that isnt true. There really isnt a type of cuisine that cannot be found in DFW. From all kinds of Indian cuisine, to Malay, Korean, Chinese, Nepalese, Salvadoran, Mexican, Congolese, Sudanese, Ethiopian, etc. it can all be found here in high quality.
Im not saying DFW has better cuisine than the Bay, it doesnt. But saying its all (or even mostly) chains and franchises here is dead wrong.
It's funny that the DFW folks are pointing to all their malls as an advantage.
North park isn't a typical mall. It resembles a museum, more than a mall, and features tons of famous artists(Andy Warhol), sculpture, and a public library. It's the only shopping center to be featured in Vogue magazine. Was named one of 7 wonders of modern retail world. It's also an international shopping Mecca, with over a billion dollars in annual sales, and the number one ranked Neiman Marcus in sales.
It's a mall. If you want culture, head over to Ft Worth which has several good museums. It's the best museum town in the south. This is the kind of point that would be valid in terms of local advantages. The big box/mall culture around most of the DFW area is a distinct disadvantage.

Well, considering the point he was making was about shopping, and a mall is full of shops, Im sure you can see why it was brought up.
Shopping is the the one non COL area where DFW can go head to head with the Bay.

who the heck cares if it is a mall or not.
CD is filled with this elitist bs about store fronts and all that
fact is Dallas has high end shopping that is on par with SF no matter how the stores are packaged.
not everyone favors street facing individual stores, and not all favors malls.
Its an individuals choice. But on a non subjective aspect, the actual clothing, DFW and SF are on par. I would even give DFW the edge
