In fact, I love her she is my friend, but as you may be able to tell, her constantly ragging on my home area gets on my nerves. Yes, we're different in some ways on this coast, but get used to it or leave. Constantly calling everyone in NY and NJ an as*hole won't make her many more friends, trust me. Just a personal story from me.
Ah, so now you know how Californians feel when New Yorkers migrate out here in droves and then rag on how this or that is not like NYC or the East Coast. You said it best...when I hear these folks complain on C-D or IRL...I think "get used to it or leave."

When I see CA visitors in NYC. I asked them about how is CA's State budget to be balanced or not. The Cali folks never respond my answer, or they reply about how Wall Street bankrupt America. LOL! What a cheesy come back answer. Go figure, how Cali folks can't give you a straight answer about their economic crisis. Glad I left the land of flakes & flakes!

FYI, this is not Capitol Hill's (DC) or Wall Street's (NYC) fault to cause CA's bankruptcy. It is the public sector of CA's economy to ripple down to its taxpayers. You kind of wonder why many businesses leave CA due to its so-called, "SOCIALIST UTOPIA."

You know it,
If they (EC) don't like it then leave, who is holding them back. I left the WC b/c of how artificial the WC folks live in their Disney Land fantasy. This is probably why many EC folks get frustrated b/c they talk to plastic & superficial people.
Who is us? You & everyone else represents all of CA? I think not.
FYI,
This is an opinion topic for INDIVIDUALS like you & I to comment here as INDIVIDUALS. If you read my prior comments on this thread. It pertains about the difference of EC vs. WC cultures to comment as an INDIVIDUAL. My analysis is correct for a WC person such as yourself to make constructive or deconstructive comments to present your argument as a CONFORMIST. An EC person presents his/her constructive or deconstructive arguments to comment here as an INDIVIDUAL.
BIG DIFFERENCE!
Right back at you, "SPARE ME OF YOUR BS & IDIOCY!"

Nah, I really don't. Because according to my CA friend, we out here are all "as*holes". I doubt New Yorkers call the stereotypical mellow Californians as*holes like we're stereotypically referred to. So I don't know how Californians must feel. The complaints I usually hear coming from people I know now in CA is that things are more laid back, less busy and less of a rush, and people are different, but not in a way that makes them as*holes.
You can't compare the areas, and you can't compare the people. There are positives and negatives to both but they're not equal at all.

Except you were trying to present a factually incorrect statement as a well-informed opinion, which anyone would call out. You really didn't provide proof of your statement aside from an article that is 9 months old. Not to mention, instead of a serious rebuttal, you attacked the source instead of the substance. So no, really, cut the BS.

This is purely anecdotal, and has generalizations. But how could one talk about cultural similarities between two regions without making some anecdotes and generalities?
Based on a discussion on the Seattle board, I noticed a number of cultural differences between the West Coast vs East Coast populations.
East Coast:
More british influence
Families have been in the USA much longer. Many families can trace their USA immigration back hundreds of years.
More individualistic. The East Coast put more emphasis on splitting from your family and friends and making your own way. Seen more generations ago, where kids would often move away to other cities/states to start their own families
More distinctive USA culture. This is probably due to the British influence, and having more historical landmarks that date back to the beginning of the country.
West Coast:
More Latin/non-British influences
Historical landmarks are more influenced by Spain than colonial British.
Population puts less emphasis on individualism. Seems to be more emphasis on circles
Population is younger. Less people have American generations that span beyond a few generations
Less emphasis on Americanism and Patriotism. Not to say it doesn't exist on the West, but certainly less pronounced.
Is this assessment of the different cultural traits concerning people on both coast accurate. Have anyone noticed other values more pervasive on each coast.
They are both very similar, these are very minor differences or just straight up over generalizations.
