As I was saying, the diaspora of minorities in the Bay Area is really quite impressive.

This is my pic and it illustrates that from poor inner city areas to semi rural areas to wealthy suburban hillsides, minorities are a sizable presence along the most congested and highly populated corridor in Northern California and well beyond.

More racially diverse yes but far less diversity within the racial categories. Are there significant Nigerian, Ghanaian, Jamaican, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Turkish, etc. communities in Oakland?

What communities does Houston have that the Bay Area lacks?

So London is more diverse in one way and Oakland IS MORE DIVERSE in another way.

I have no problem with that statement. However, it seems to bother you.

Does either London or Toronto have wealthy neighborhoods that are predominantly Black like Oakland?

Call me when that happens. In the meantime, yawns

I think your map is quite interesting and shows the diversity of the Bay Area.

Not exactly a fair comparison really - I don't think either London or Toronto have as large a percentage of blacks as would be in Oakland.. East and South Asians are larger in number in Toronto than blacks and those groups do have good representation in terms of living in more upscale housing hoods. Most new houses that are bought in Markham for example - which are largely 1 million Dollar plus homes are bought by Asians.

Unfortunately in Toronto, blacks collectively are lower economic performers but that doesn't mean the GTA does not have a good share of Vis mins in other groups doing very well.

South Asians in Toronto are on average much less affluent than they are in the Bay Area though. But also the composition of the South Asian populations are different. In the Bay Area, they're mostly professionals from southern India. Toronto has more Pakistani and Bangladeshi Muslims, Punjabi Sikhs and Sri Lankan Tamils and there's a much larger working class component.

This is a very good point - people seem fixated on only racial diversity as being the barometer of diversity. I personally think ethnic and cultural diversity are more important barometers. I've said this before and will say again, why wouldn't a white Ukrainian who just immigrated to a place be considered as part of the diversity milieu... Especially if his mother tongue is not English.. This is why I think cities like London, Toronto and NYC are usually lumped in as being the most diverse (Not detracting from the diversity of others) but for those 3 its sheer number of representation from so many ethnic groups with large percentages of people not speaking English as their mother tongue because so many are 1st generation and recent FOBS.
