It's a multi billion dollar rip off. This is great news for Boston. I know people here in DC that were glad that they didn't win the US bid.

If LA thinks they can handle it, why poopoo on their parade. I don't care of LA has already hosted a million times, if it won't hurt them to host then bring it on. I would love to see it in my home city, but we placed bids in the past, we lost, I'm moving on. If I can't have it in mine well the next best thing will be a fellow US city.

I think LA will be able to put on a hell of a show.

I honestly think no U.S. city will be hosting an Olympics any time soon. With the bribe scandal partially exposed by the U.S., their would be a bullish view of the United States by other countries if it then won a bid shortly after.

Without the ability to allow corporations to pick up the tab, most of the cost will be shifted to taxpayers. Seeing as how Los Angelenos are not willing to shell out money for a new NFL stadium, I would imagine it would be a tough sell.
Most of the sites are already built though. If you saw LA's presentation, most of the facilities are already in place. The only stadiums that would be built are for the privately financed LAFC stadium and the Inglewood/Carson stadium which would be privately financed too. Most of the money that would be used would go towards speeding up transportation projects.

I'd rather see another city in Oceania host the Summer Olympics, like Auckland or Melbourne.

Paris will look to host the Olympics 100 years after its last Games in 1924. The Paris 2024 Olympic bid will become official starting Tuesday. Boston doesn't stand a chance IMO.

Poor Paris.

I bet you Paris would lose a bundle on the Olympics. Given that Paris is already like the biggest tourist city on earth, and given the city is absolutely clogged with tourists all summer, it's likely that the Olympics will scare off many of the regular visitors.

I cannot imagine visiting Paris for the Olympics. I mean, I can't even imagine visiting in prime season on a normal year, but someone would be crazy to visit during the Olympics. The Louvre and Notre Dame and Champs Elysees will be tourist hell.

No. Not only are there not many other cities capable of hosting ever, much less on 8 years years' notice, there's NO other American cities capable of actually winning the damn bid. And "deserving a chance" has nothing to do with it - that's like saying the Patriots need to fork over the SB trophy to the friggin Lions. It will have been 40 years since 1984, well exceeding the memories of most who could care. Arguing otherwise reeks of petty resentment.
